NETFLIX exclusive releases.

I recently rented some discs that when I got them in the mail they had NETFLIX embossed on the disc - suggesting that the powers that be had gotten in a deal with Netflix to release these on disc before the mass main release:

two I have noted include:

- A Hole in my Heart
- Naked World

are there any other DVD's that are released as such?

Lilya 4-ever is a Netflix exclusive in R1. A damn shame, too, because I'd love to own it.

I remember getting a couple old catalog titles that had non-retail Netflix-exclusive type discs. I forget which ones, but they were old '80s titles.

I don't have Netflix, but don't they also get double sided discs made single sided just for them? For example, tv shows like American Gothic.

Yes. The studios make single sided versions of their double sided discs for Netflix. Not everything but most things. A lot of the early stuff I've gotten from them is still double sided. Also noticed that there is usually a delay between the release date and when Netflix actually has them, I guess they have too wait for them to be made. It's a good thing. Better to have an extra rent than have to re-rent because the disc is bad. All the bad discs I've gotten from Netflix or Blockbuster have been double sided. They're just not up to the wear. Also none of the DVD-18 issues with the Universal titles.

Such a great movie, too. Anyone who has Netflix and hasn't seen it should check it out.

I think they are also getting into distributing certain movies. A true indie film, NBT: Never Been Thawed has Netflix in the credits at the beginning & end. It even says Netfix presents at the top of the credits. I think they have an exclusive on it until April or so.

If anyone likes Christopher Guest type movies (mockumentaries), rent this film. I thought it was quite funny. It was shot on DV and made on a shoe-string but you can tell the guys worked hard on it with no money.

It's about a group of Frozen Dinner Entree collectors and also a Christian punk/hard-rock band. They poke a lot of fun at religion and collectors but there are also little sub-plots/stories that are very funny (i.e. Clown Cuts, bladder bag, No Choice Cafe, abstinence, turning gays straight, roadside spelling tourneys, etc.). If this sounds like you kind of humor, check it out. Their website has some funny stuff as well: www.neverbeenthawed.com .

Yes. They got a printing with their logo over the side that would have contained the theatrical cut.

Also, their version of Born Into Brothels lacked the commentary track and some of the other extra features (I don't remember exactly what).

Why in the world would Lilya 4-ever be a Net-Flix exclusive? This has to be a short term deal.

I've noticed the Netflix printing on many discs but I think they just get mass volumes for less that way and they probably hope that cuts down on people keeping the discs.

They weren't Netflix exclusives though.

Unless you count the annoying ones where they take away a commentary or extra feature. I've missed the commentary on a few of those and I remember renting the George Romero flick "Season of the Witch/There's Always Vanilla" on the TAV was not on the damn disc.

It's also annoying that some you have to rent twice as many discs to see some TV show seasons.

I don't know how "exclusive" they are, but Netflix rents "El Cid" & "Fall of the Roman Empire", 2 titles you're not going to find at any B&M & HTF on-line.
