Disney's "The Jungle Book" (1967) - when?

When is this great (and in my opinion, best) animated film being re-released on DVD? It was originally released in the late 90's as a "Limited Edition," and I thought I heard back in the day that it would be re-released as a "SE" in 2006.

Well, there are two Disney releases scheduled for 2006, and I think that they only release two per year.

Any idea on when this will be re-released, or should I just buy the thirty dollar "LE" from e-bay? I waited this long, should I wait a little longer?

Due on October 2nd, Buena Vista's two-disc set promises a remastered and restored transfer and Dolby Digital remix, along with a jungle full of extras. Jungle Book comes out in October

with 101 Dalmatians in march followed by the following titles:

Pinocchio (October '08?)
Fantasia ('09?)
Sleeping Beauty.('09?)

Disney releases 2 platinum titles a year, one in March and another, more high profile title in October. There was originally 10 in the collection, that was recently bumped to 14 with the addition of Peter Pan (whose release date was swapped with Dalmatians to help promote the new Tinker Belle franchise being launched), Pinocchio, Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty

what I'm really yearning for is the 2 disc edition of Lilo and Stitch that was released in region 2 that features the original non 9-11 friendly ending and much more violent alternate scenes.

What ending was that? It is not listed on the imdb.com.

I think I'll wait for the reviews to come out to see if the colors have been "modernized".

I'm sure that Baracine will let us know if that's the case.

I have skipped the last few platinum editions, but the cover looks great, and I have been waiting for this one on dvd. Count me in for 101 dalmations as well.

The DVD cover stinks. Not only is it "modernized animation," but it doesn't even have the courtesy of including Baagera the Panther.

Looking at the comparison of the before/after pics on the press release, the background on the new version looks green... so maybe that's a good thing?

Why would they? Way too much money at this point for what, a couple of 1000 BD sales? Believe me, I went format neutral specifically for Disney, but its going to be a while before the "classics" come out. Its not about greed, its about basic business.

It is just me, or are Platinum Editions becoming more about advertising the latest DTV sequel and teen pop music artists than about actual Disney classics themselves. At least the picture and sound quality are still top-notch, and The Jungle Book is one of my favorite Disney movies, so must-buy either way.

Yeah, I had high hopes when Snow White came out and it was such a great release. They've slowly migrated towards kid-centric releases.

Thank god this is finaly coming! Its been too long and this is my most fave disney movie next too...

Sword in the Stone! Wheres the SE release of this? I guess nothing to tie it in with or ways to rape it with modern disney idiots doing different versions of the songs.

Ive noticed the same thing Tom... the relases have gone really down in quality. I dont even feel compelled to buy them.
