"The Patriot" Extended Edition coming 4/25

From DVDActive:

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has sent over the details on an extended edition of The Patriot which stars the likes of Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger and Jason Isaacs. This Roland Emmerich directed film will be available to own from the 25th April, and should retail at around $19.94. The disc will carry a digitally remastered widescreen presentation, and English Dolby Digital 5.1 track - along with an additional ten minutes of footage. On top of that, the disc will include all the features (commentary, featurettes etc) from the first retail release of the film.

I'm pretty sure they'll just be putting back in the deleted scenes from the original DVD. As I recall these scenes were actually pretty decent though. Still it's just a lousy marketing ploy for everyone who enjoyed this film to plunk down another $15 on a DVD. It would have been neat if they could have went all out and made a disc set not unlike the Gladiator Extended Edition.

Sony sure is trying to milk every last dime out of their titles before they ship blu-ray.

Sony seriously. Just stop.

They should release a rated R version of S.W.A.T. The test screening I saw showed some head shots and longer shoot outs, especially when they got ambushed by the thugs.

Awww... is this becoming a trend now? Running out of "sellable" titles?

I agree with some of the comments above. Sony is milking DVD as much as possible before Blu-Ray and this will probably just be the movie with the deleted scenes added. Sony did the same thing with Tears of the Sun.

Not going to get this one. I can't remember the deleted scenes on the first DVD. Can someone provide a brief description?

The Deleted Scenes are mostly just scenes that would have fleshed out the characters a bit more. No extra or added violence, as the movie was pretty brutal already. I'll be interested to see how the extended cut plays out (notice how it's not the "Directors Cut"), but again, this one is obviously just a ploy to make a few more bucks off of a film that never really needed these scenes to be put back in. Cheap Sony, give us a better disc than this...

I agree, this movie probably ran too long as it was.

Adding deleted scenes to make the movie 10-15 minutes isn't going to make a better movie. Obviously, the director cut them out for a reason. I wonder if the director's of these movies are cringing at these "extended versions" coming out.

I might pick it up as I never picked up one of the other releases. But may just opt to finally pick up the superbit if the added footage is nothing special.

No need to double dip here. I don't watch this all the time, so I am happy with what I have got in my collection.

I read that they reshot some scenes and used some digital magic. Lisa Brenner no longer appears in the movie as Anne. She has been replaced completely by Jake Gyllenhal.
