'Box Sets'...do you count as more than 1 title?

I count everything as 1. For example The Pink Panther Collection has 6 movies in it. but I only count the boxset as 1. I try not to buy boxsets though, but if it's the only way to get the movies you want then I have to do it. But I always try to get movies individually. I'm not a fan of boxsets, maybe because I only do count them as 1, with individuals they look like there's more movies on the shelf that you have instead of having 5 or 6 movies in 1 box. It maybe wrong to do that but that's just how I do it.

I have my own Excel spreadsheet also. A season box = 1, even if it contains 7 disc. A collection of movies, like 'Planet of the Apes' set or 'Nighmare on Elm Street' set go by the number of movies. Bonus disc do not count unless it can be purchased on its own like 'National Geographic-Lord of the Rings-Return of the King' special. The only time season sets can be listed by disc is if you have a separate UPC like when you had to buy the origional Star Trek series or Farscape by the disc. I have the Total Movie Collection which contains 40 movies on 10 disc and I count it as 1 same as with the 50 Pack collections, they = 1.

I don't use Profiler or any other online service, I maintain my own database. And my mindset is that I collect movies, not the medium (I still buy VHS and laserdisc if necessary), so every movie gets its own record in the movie database. I have a separate database for anything that isn't a movie (tv, music, documentary, etc).

i use dvdprofiler. one upc=one collection number. i can find pretty much whatever i am looking for (even if it is in a boxset). i am basically too lazy to break out the individual titles from the boxset, but, i like the ideas listed above where you number the individual movies and withold a collection number for the boxset as a whole.

I just go by whatever DVDAF says. Logic indicates that a box set with several titles (i.e. the ones WB puts out), you count the number of titles in there. I can see how it gets a bit muddy when you get those sets that have 50 movies on two discs, though. But when people ask me how many DVDs I've got, I just tell them the number of titles. It's close enough and if you wanna get into semantics, there's always the number of actual DVDs to make up for it.

They're in DVDProfiler how I bought them. The cashier (or receipt/packing list) doesn't scan each movie in a trilogy, they scan one UPC, and that's what I own. If I ever submit an insurance claim (for whatever reason), it's a detailed explanation of each disc in the trilogy. I don't see the point in wasting time by entering each DVD separately, especially each individual disc in a TV season set. I use DVDProfiler as a tool for easy reference, not to impress anyone. I have one Criterion (The Rock) and my screen name is ShallowHal, you do the math.
