FOX releasing lots of Straight-to-DVD sequels

Davisdvd.com is reporting that Fox is going to be releasing straight to dvd sequels of several of their films. The list:

Dr. Dolittle 3 - April 25th
Like Mike 2 - June
Behind the Enemy Lines 2 - July
The Sandlot 3 - 2007
Bachelor Party - 2007
Wrong Turn - 2007

My 2 cents: I expect these films to be on bargain bins, soon after their releases.

Bachelor Party? Maybe they can get Colin Hanks to star.

paulringodaman 02-09-06 03:02 PM

No!! not a 3rd Sandlot!

I did actually like Wrong Turn but often sequels suck. Hopefully a direct to video release will not be too bad!

LorenzoL 02-09-06 03:09 PM

They are making a sequel of "Like Mike"? Isn't that the Bow Wow movie with the kid from Jerry Maguire?

I guess Hollywood has indeed run out of ideas.

SteveOVig 02-09-06 03:15 PM

Like Mike 2? I've seen it all now.

bboisvert 02-09-06 03:47 PM

Smart move on their part, really... I was reading an article a couple of weeks ago on this topic. Basically, it costs them about $4 million to pull together these made-for-video sequels. And, pretty much without exception, they make significantly more than that in revenue.

This is sort of the live-action version of what Disney has been doing for years. Their video sequels may be mediocre, but kids/fans still gobble them up... and they're cheap to make... so why not?

Personally, I'm not interested in these. But it makes me wonder if TV show revivals (Buffy/Angel, Firefly, Farscape, Babylon 5) are being considered. Seems logical that if Like Mike 2 can get the greenlight, a direct-to-DVD Buffyverse (or similar) project could certainly be a hit.

The only thing I'm intersted in on that list is Wrong Turn 2. I enjoyed the original so I will give this one a shot too.

How can they make a sequel to Behind Enemy Lines? I just don't get it. At least FOX did (sort of) come to their senses by nixing the theatrical release of Dr. Dolittle 2.

Sequel in title only. Plot concerns a North Korean nuclear conflict, starring Peter Coyote and Keith David.

Dvdlovr24 02-09-06 04:32 PM

Dr. Dolittle 2 had a theatrical release.

Maxflier 02-09-06 04:35 PM

I LOVE Wrong Turn so i'm glad to see a sequel coming for it, i just hope it does the original justice.

I also really liked Wrong Turn; however, I'm worried that this DTV sequel will be shit. Hopefully it ends up surprising me.

Alright, I'll probably have to see this since Keith David is in it.

From the trailer I saw on Roll Bounce, Like Mike 2 has the EXACT same plot, right down to the "one black kid with white friend" set-up.

Im ready to take another Wrong Turn. Bring back three finger and a few new mutant friends and we might have a winner. Why not have a whole group of police find what is left of the cabin and then go on a hunting mission for the killers to end up in a showdown with finger and family.

John*D 02-09-06 06:42 PM

Sandlot 2 was good as was the first. I wonder if part three will be set in the '80s?

DonnachaOne 02-09-06 06:50 PM

Sure about Doctor Dolittle 3? At AMC, we received a theatrical poster.

But without, I'm guessing, the help of big stars like Bow Wow and Eugene Levy, though. ;)

fryinpan1 02-09-06 07:28 PM

I might pick these up once I see the trailers:

Behind the Enemy Lines 2 - July
Wrong Turn - 2007

EdTheRipper 02-09-06 08:37 PM

I'd have some interest in a couple of these titles. Mainly Wrong Turn and Bachelor Party.

onebyone 02-09-06 08:40 PM

Wrong Turn 2 sounds pretty good to me. I just wish I didn't have to wait until 2007.

thing-fish24 02-09-06 11:00 PM

Fox is releasing crappy direct-to-DVD sequels like those, but they won't lift a finger to get Ralph Bakshi's Wizards 2 produced? WTF?

Heck, when has any DTV sequel EVER disappointed?!?

Panda Phil 02-10-06 01:28 AM

At least they're not cluttering up the theaters with this crap.
