Basic Instinct : Ultimate Edition ----> 3/14/06

In the spirit of unnecesary double dippings, Lionsgates is releasing Basic Instinct : Ultimate Edition on March 14th, according to davisdvd.com . This time is has a new anamorphic widescreen transfer, so maybe it isn't as bad as Sony's trend in double dipping. More info here:

Ummm...where in that article does it stated a "new" anamorphic transfer? It sounds like the previous uncut version.

Either way, I won't be buying this again until HD. I think it's a Blu-ray release.

My bad. I misread and thought I saw that it was a new anamorphic transfer. So then, this is another unnecesary release, ala Sony.

ScissorPuppy 01-23-06 05:55 PM

Maybe it's a "new anamorphic widescreen transfer" in 1.78:1?

Correct Answer:
A. Basic Instinct : Ice Picking, Leg Crossing, Sexy Unrated, Short Blond Hair, Beaver Edition

jimnysf 01-23-06 07:14 PM

No "Ice Pick" included this go-round?

TomOpus 01-23-06 07:33 PM

I already have my "Ice Pick" version. :nopanic:

Depending on the quality of the extras, I might get it.

milo bloom 01-23-06 07:43 PM

I have the Icepick version and a copy of the old release with the unintentionally hilarious DVS track. I think I'm done for now.

 I'll settle for the "Beaver Edition".

digitalfreaknyc 01-23-06 08:35 PM

Too bad they didn't do DTS like other countries.

PatrickMcCart 01-23-06 08:35 PM

They really need a trivia track on this.

A bubble with an arrow points to Mrs. Stone's furry friend with the text, "TRIVIA TIME: Sharon Stone was not wearing any underwear in this scene."

Willh51 01-23-06 08:56 PM

This should be cheaper because you can get the old SE for like 5.50 at Walmart. Nobody is going to pay $20 for this.

marty888 01-23-06 09:47 PM

Yeah ... no icepick, no sale.

animatedude 01-23-06 09:48 PM

that was an expected release but i know an online retailer that still sells the OOP "ice-pick" version, do you guys think i should buy the ice-pick version or wait for this release?

Geofferson 01-23-06 10:00 PM

I'll stick with the icepick version I have.

Since this is Lions Gate Film's, I wouldn't doubt it. :(

Too bad, as every review I've read of the current release indicates it has a somewhat marginal transfer. Why not remaster if you're re-releasing? Doesn't make sense. Unless these are just early details, and there's more information to come. Or, more likely, this is little more than a tie-in with the sequel, and was slapped together with minimal thought.

That was a joke. The film is actually 2.35:1. This is something Lion's Gate WOULD do. ;)

Julie Walker 01-24-06 01:34 AM

Since the unrated SE is out of print from the looks of it(it's not listed on many sites for example). I would definitely get this upcoming release if you don't own the film already. Though make sure it is in the correct aspect ratio before hand!

And for the record, the copies at Target and Wal-Mart for $5 is the R rated version. So that is best left avoided for obvious reasons:)

I found the Unrated version at Best Buy a few weeks ago for $5. Don't think I'll be upgrading.
