I'm very happy to hear about Futurama's return, though I'm a bit disappointed in that it's not coming back as a regular TV series. Still, it's cool that we'll see 4 feature-length Futurama movies. Hopefully it'll be 4 "true" direct-to-DVD movies and not just a triplet of episodes loosely strung together a la "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story."

This could be an attempt to revive the series, depending on the success of sales, I think. Family Guy's DVD sales pushed the series back into production, so you never know.

Wow, 4 feature length movies in one year? Guess it will be a busy year for everyone involved.
Looking forward to them since i love the show.

No one said they're all coming out next year (which would be a bit much, I think). The DavisDVD article linked to in the original post just says to expect the first DVD in '07. I'd expect 2 next year and 2 in '08 (~ 6 months apart).Originally Posted by Maxflier

This being one of my favorite shows, if not my all time favorite this is great news, but like most I hope it will be a revival of the show that happens ultimately.

Did they get the original writers? Not that they would be expensive, just that they might be off doing other things now.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Even if they were all released in '07, that's probably only 6 hours of actual footage, far less then then a season of TV show would be. I think it could be possible.

I'm really hoping that they can carry a small arch over the films as well as make each film it's own story. The series didn't end horribly but it would be nice if over the films we got a bit more than just randomness of 4 separate stories.

So the 360 minutes of four 90-minute movies would, together, form something close to the length of an average Futurama season, not that there ever was such a thing. 100-minute movies would total 400 minutes, and there've been plenty of animated seasons of various shows shorter than that. (22 episodes 22 minutes each - a theoretical typical season - would be 484 minutes.)
I consider this to be the announcement of the equivalent of another season of the show, and I'm very happy about that.
