In regard's to Irwin Allen's "The Towering Inferno" (Fox, 1974) where does this title stand as far as a "Special Edition" DVD release with supplemental materials? I am primarily a film print and original movie poster collector. I have five 16mm prints of "The Towering Inferno" of various versions and conditions. I do buy video releases as well because compared to actual film prints they are a bargain. Just wondered if this is tied up legally along with "The Poseidon Adventure" or will this actually see the light of day? Is a "Special Edition" in the work's?
Thank You!

Both the original Poseidon and Towering Inferno are now owned by Synthesis Entertainment Synthesis is a merging of Irwin Allen Productions and all the one shot production companies that werre formed for each IA movie or tv show.

Thank you for that information. I have film footage to contribute for the supplemental section. I am currently gathering information as to the right person to contact who might be working on this project. I was originally going to contact Fox.

I would love to see Special Editions of either or both. These films demand it.
I went to a Special Screening of Poseidon about 4 years ago and Stella Stevens and Carol Lindy were there. Great fun.

I don't get this. I thought The Poseidon Adventure was financed by Fox and The Towering Inferno was financed by Fox and Warner. How did Fox (and Warner, I'm assuming) lose the rights to two films they've owned for thirty years?Originally Posted by rw2516

Hi Matthew:
That is a good question. I thought the exact same thing. It must be that since Irwin Allen was a producer he owned some interest in these films and television shows he produced. I did more research on Synthesis Entertainment and found out one of the owners is Kevin Burns. He is currently working on a new tv version of "Lost In Space" with the approval of Sheila Allen (Irwin Allen's wife). Still working on trying to find contact information on a possible "Towering Inferno" SE DVD set. Hopefully the people I contacted will get back to me. I was going to call Fox Studios. I have obtained a couple of numbers for them for their research department.

Poseidon Adventure was produced by Kent Productions(one of the IA companies involved in Time Tunnel). Fox was just the distributor. Towering Inferno was produced by Fox, Warner, and Irwin Allen Productions. Lost in Space tv show has 5 or 6 production companies. Glad they got it all straightened out for dvd releases of the tv shows. Since Towering Inferno went out of print, my guess is Warner Bros. involvement has something to do with it. Few years ago in a HTF interview with Peter Straddon of Fox, when asked about a new release of Towering Inferno and Poseidon he said that they(Fox) no longer had the rights to Towering Inferno and he wasn't sure if they still had rights to Poseidon. Since the Poseidon dvd is still out there it may be that they can't issue a different version or something.Originally Posted by Matthew Chmiel

Hopefully with the poseiden remake coming out this year, they will at least attempt to do a SE.
Id be more interested in a Inferno SE but would still buy both if given the choice

Finally I can dump my old non-anamorphic title of Towering Inferno. There is something about this movie that is immensely rewatchable. Great news!

I agree. Although I never bought the first release. Wasn't the song Disco Inferno associated with this film? If not, it should've been the darn theme!Originally Posted by thursdaynighter

Finally...the long wait is over
I just hope the disc includes the many "TV Version" scenes that are rarely shown anymore as part of the bonus material.

I watched this the other day and noticed that there was no 5.1 DD audio track (even though the case specs says there is), so I watched it in 4.0. The DVD Talk Review made no mention of this.
Did anyone else notice this?

I looked and noticed that while the case lists 5.1, the slipcover only lists 4.0, so it looks like it was fixed in one place but not the other.Originally Posted by Geofferson
