# of unseen dvds in your collection.

I recently did a count of how many movies I still have to watch that I bought and are in my collection and I was just wondering how many the rest of my dvdtalkers have. It can be either unseen dvds or unseen films, your choice.

Im up to 68 unseen films. But I made a promise to myself not to buy anymore movies untill I lower that number to around 10.

OldBoy 01-17-06 09:50 AM

good ? i'm probably 50-100, but i will still buy dvd's no matter what. i'll count sometime and give an exact.

treszoks 01-17-06 09:57 AM

0 :)

joltman 01-17-06 09:57 AM

About 24 of 235 DVDs I own contain movies I have not seen. Now, that's not counting movies I have seen but have not watched the version I own on DVD, that would raise it a bit. Or including movies my fiance owns which I haven't seen, though our collections are kept together.

illennium 01-17-06 10:00 AM

About 300. Unlike some others, I don't think this is at all a bad thing, and I'm in no rush to reduce that number. For me, DVD is all about providing access to great movies that I haven't seen, rather than about collecting things I already like.

phatboy 01-17-06 10:02 AM

around 100

glasschicken 01-17-06 10:05 AM

About 160.

Maxflier 01-17-06 10:07 AM

42 for me.

nemein 01-17-06 10:11 AM

I haven't counted but I'm guessing around 50 (out of about 1050), several are TV boxsets that I just haven't taken the time to get into.

Shagrath 01-17-06 10:12 AM

Currently, DVDProfiler shows me at 117/1488 unwatched, or 7.86%, which I don't think is too bad. This includes 19 TV sets (which only count as one title).

One day, I'll be back to a manageable level of unwatched, hopefully by the end of the year.

kaydigitech 01-17-06 10:13 AM

Coming close on 600 (out of around 2,000), my backlog is massive. It's great when TV series go on hiatus 'cause i'm able to marathon a lot of titles. Since the return of 24 and The Shield the DVD backlog continues.

I will make it my business to watch Red Eye and Band of Brothers on DVD this week.

ShallowHal 01-17-06 10:13 AM

I'd rather watch one than count them. :D

tommyp007 01-17-06 10:15 AM

lots, probably 150 out of 700.

Bronkster 01-17-06 10:28 AM

Possibly around 200 - many of which being TV sets. As mentioned above by Illennium, it's all about being able to watch when I want on my own terms. I love DVD!

gotrice487 01-17-06 10:34 AM

Since I work for a school, the Christmas Break helped me get down to under 10 unwatched DVDs including TV on DVD

spartanstew 01-17-06 10:47 AM

I currently have 94 movies (out of 500+) I've never seen. About 20 of those are Disney movies that I'm sure I'll get sick of as my kids get older. Another 50 of those are movies I might never watch, but that I got in order to build my library so that guest to my home theater have a wide selection to choose from. The other 24 or so, I'll get around to soon enough.

teamwinfan 01-17-06 10:50 AM

Way too damn many...

awmurray 01-17-06 10:55 AM

65/777. Not as many as I thought.

Exactly, I would say over 400 with my DDD and other Christmas purchases - but this will decrease rapidly now that I am in a watching rather than shopping mode.

chemosh6969 01-17-06 10:56 AM

I'm in the middle of adding a bunch of dvds since I've been letting my database lapse, but right now it's showing I will never catch up before I die.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...6969/death.jpg

Yes, that is 2221 movies I need to watch out of 4220.

After I catch up with entering the rest, you can add about 300 more :(

I remember when I got it down to around 500 movies at one point over the summer when my wife went to see her family.

FantasticVSDoom 01-17-06 11:10 AM

Probably about 10-15, give or take a few...

digitalfreaknyc 01-17-06 11:12 AM

I can't even begin to count.

Atreus 01-17-06 11:17 AM

57 out of 450+

darkshadowdog 01-17-06 11:23 AM

Proboly only around 12-15 for me. Plus i'm working through Stargate SG1 seasons 3-7...

matome 01-17-06 11:27 AM

Probably 50-100, not counting TV sets.

Same here. It's all about access.

I buy movies that pique my interest. Even if I don't get to them right away, I eventually do. The hope is always that I will find a film that makes it into my all time favorites, but it usually takes a while for that to digest.

One of my biggest mistakes is deciding what I thought about a film within a day of seeing it, and selling it if it didn't "bowl me over". In many cases, 6 months down the line I find myself wanting to see a film again. So right now I've made a decision to not sell any blind buys until a few months after their initial viewing.

I find having a somewhat set schedule for viewing helps in decreasing the number as well. I've gotten away from that in 2005 because I move dinto a ne house and things were hectic for a while. But 2006 is going to be the year I dig a nice deep groove into my HT loveseat. :D

The challenge is balancing new movies with ones I love. I have my HT because I want to see movies like Star Wars, LOTR, and my favorite dramas in the best way possible. So I try to watch all of my favorites at least once a year.

chente 01-17-06 11:37 AM

There 30 out of 548 movies that I own on DVD that I haven't viewed yet. I've seen half of those before. The remaining ones are either newly acquired or part of a boxset that I'm making my way through. For example, I just picked up the Tarzan Box set and haven't even opened it yet.

There are 13 out of 194 Laserdisc that I own that I haven't watched yet. Similarly, the are only a couple that I haven't seen before.

I tend to watch things right away.

JANK 01-17-06 11:43 AM

I have at least 100-200 out of over 1000+ DVDs.

Yesterday my son (18) was sorting the putting away that piles of DVDs (not sure why he was so inspired) when he came across one and said, "I didn't know we had Shawshank Redemption!!"

Yes, it was still unopened. Sigh, but I will get to it....

paradicelost 01-17-06 11:44 AM

If you count everything i haven't seen then its around 47 out of a little over 500. If you don't count the ones that are my wife's that i really don't have much interest in watching then that number goes down by about a third.

Red Dog 01-17-06 11:46 AM

Too many to count (mostly my TV-on-DVD); have a lot with the DVDs still in the shrinkwrap.

DeeKay 01-17-06 11:47 AM

I have only a few:

The Bachelor
Hamlet (Mel Gibson)
Empire of the Ants / Tenacles (double feature)

gutwrencher 01-17-06 11:49 AM

Out of over 2000 titles....I still have 16 un-viddied. Thats only because work has been busy over the last 4 weeks of new releases. I'm catchin' up.:D

Giles 01-17-06 11:51 AM

this year I dropped one title for rental off of my Netflix account and reverted back to two DVD's from Nicheflix, just so I could get some time to watch the DVD's in my own collection.

PHMustang2000 01-17-06 11:58 AM

45 unwatched seasons of shows
15 movies

dkny75 01-17-06 12:11 PM

I'm at around 250 but I've come to the painful realization that TV shows will take much longer to get to.

Altimus Prime 01-17-06 12:15 PM

Just one or two. I know I haven't watched The Shining yet, which I got in the WalMart deal.

I haven't watched every ep on a few of the TV shows I own, but have watched some, so I don't know if they count.

I'd hate to have a bunch of unwatched DVDs laying around. I figure, if I won't/cant' watch them, don't buy them.

supfool! 01-17-06 12:17 PM

zero

MEJHarrison 01-17-06 12:18 PM

I currently have 25 unwatched movies. And that's actually just about how I like to keep it. When it's time for a new movie, I always have a nice selection to choose from to match my mood.

I also have 5 unwatched TV sets and two unwatched TV related movies (Homicide: The Movie and Serenity). I still need to watch Homicide Season 7 before getting to the movie and I need to watch Firefly before Serenity.

I have 5 more movies that are wife movies. I'll wait to watch them with her. Then there's about 11 kid movies that are appropiate for watching with the kids.

Josh H 01-17-06 12:22 PM

As far as movies/shows i've NEVER seen. Zero.

As far as ones I've seen, but haven't watched the DVD since buying, probably around 10.

dadaluholla 01-17-06 12:23 PM

Out of around 400-450 dvds and tv show sets, I'd say 1 TV boxset and 2-3 movies. Over the last year, I traded in and sold a ton of stuff I hadn't touched or didn't think I'd really watch again.

I'm much more picky with my purchases anymore, so I usually watch new items the same week I get them. If its a blind buy and I don't think I'd watch it again within a year or so I get rid of it ASAP.
