I would say for the most part I am a customer. I am very particular about which films I buy and usually have to really like the films to buy them. I will sell a film on Ebay immediately if I decide that I don't really like the film anymore or can't see myself wanting to watch it again.

However, recently I have started blind buying DVD's from directors that I really like. For example, I have started buying films by Hitchcock that I haven't seen. I'm starting to do this with others like Scorsese and Bergman.

I guess you could say I'm partly consumer though because I have started blind buying films just because Criterion puts them out. Just this past week, I bought 6 out of print Criterion titles without having seen any of them. I've got several more on my wishlist that are supposed to be excellent and very critically-acclaimed films that I'll buy blind.

There's nothing wrong with this. I've always said that if you do a little research, then you won't be blind going into a film just because you have not seen it. I don't really believe in the blind buy theory. I go into films that I have not seen with my eyes wide open.

I'm the same way with Blue Underground, No Shame and Mondo Macabro. I come close to buying just about everything they release. I've come to trust them and they just happen to fit my tastebuds....most of the time.

Can you say you're both? I buy everything that I like and think I will like. I also buy 'event' titles to be in the know and for my library to be expansive enough that any guest that comes over can have the option of watching whatever they desire. I love building my library so I think that means I'm both.

Customer. Only buy titles I really enjoyed and want to see repeatedly. Probably why I have just over 200 discs when I've had a DVD player since 1998.

Sorry, I don't 'buy' the premise.

Rather than just painting two labels of 'reckless spender' versus 'selective purchaser' you adopt this customer versus consumer nonsense.

In business, sure there is a differentiation between a business customer and a consumer ... but the labels just help to ensure everyone understands who we are talking about.

The idea that a customer makes informed decisions and a consumer does not .... well anyone in business well tell you generalization will get you no where.

I'm more a customer....I usually know what I want to buy once I see it in the theater. Other's I usually rent and if it's really good might pick it up when it's cheap.

I'm a sucker for the sales though. After Thanksgiving sales I'm all over and the bargain bins.

But mostly it's the ones I know I'll like.
