The most interesting title is the Long Good Friday, whcih has already been released by Criterion. Its a wonderful film. does anybody knows if the Criterion release is going out of print?

It is unlikely that Criterion's Long Good Friday will go out of print. It is a HandMade Films Ltd. film like Time Bandits and Life of Brian. Criterion seems to a have a great relationship with Anchor Bay. This will probably just be a concurrent release like Time Bandits, Life of Brian, The Man Who Fell to Earth, and Kind Hearts and Coronets.

He's missing some, then. This one, for example. Also Mona Lisa and Six Pack.

I'll second "Cemetery Man."

They announced this a long time ago, but it still hasn't shown up on a schedule.

Oh man, if Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa are upgraded anamorphic releases, I will gladly hawk my Criterion versions.

I've been interested in seeing "The Long Good Friday" for quite some time, but I've heard the Criterion version isn't quite up to par with most of the collection. I'll most likely pick this version up, eventually.

I couldn't find it on their site either, so sent them an e-mail asking for the truth. (Imagine if Davis DVD got confused with "Kenny and Company" ---- nooooooo!)

More than likely the Anchor Bay versions of The Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa will be identical to the UK discs that have been out for a while (and available for $6.95 and $9.95 shipped respectively from CDWow). I own both and find them superior to the Criterion versions (which I also owned at one point). Here are the UK features from DVDCompare:

The Long Good Friday

R0 United Kingdom - (Anchor Bay (UK))
Commentary by Director John Mackenzie
Interview with Director John Mackenzie and Actor Bob Hoskins
Cast & Crew Bios
Film Notes
Photo Gallery
Essential Slang Notes
Booklet
1.78:1 Anamorphic PAL
English Dolby Digital 5.1
English Dolby Digital 2.0

This version is clearly preferable to the Criterion as it is anamorphic and includes two pretty good extras.

Mona Lisa

R0 United Kingdom - (Anchor Bay)
Audio commentary by director Neil Jordan and actor Bob Hoskins
Location Report (from BBC TV's "Film 86") (5:25)
Interview with Neil Jordan in Cannes (14:11)
Nat King Cole "Mona Lisa" music video (2:11)
Cast and crew biographies
Picture gallery
Theatrical trailer
1.75:1 Anamorphic PAL
English Dolby Digital 5.1
English Dolby Digital 2.0

This version includes the same commentary track as the Criterion, though obviously not the booklet (if that's important to you). Also, DVDCompare points out:

Note also that DVD Beaver rates the non-anamorphic Criterion transfer as better than the anamorphic Anchor Bay.

Visit DVDBeaver for a full image comparison.

DavisDVD probably got his info from DVDPlanet, which listed all the Anchor Bay slate for April this past Friday. That is where I took my additional info from. Here's the link to Six Pack there:

as other posters have mentioned, I was hoping Cemetary Man was on that list. I've been holding out getting the R2 version in hopes this one will be better.

According to dvdbeaver, the image of the Criterion DVD, although it is not anamorphic, is better than the Anchor Bay UK release. Here is the link, with screencaps comparisons.

Thanks for the heads up on these. I had no idea they were so cheap at CDWOW. I'll pick them up the next time I order. Now you've repaid me the favor of letting you know that Repulsion R2 was available.

BTW, did you ever get the Lewton set?
