Has anyone else noticed how cheap the "Red Eye" case is?

Grrr... DreamWorks appears to have stooped to just about the most piss-poor, flimsy case I could ever imagine, I'd rather have a snap case than this.

Not only are there annoying locks on it, but the clear plastic is very cheap-feeling and awkwardly loose-fitting, and the black plastic is just as bad.

Did anyone else notice this?

Those cases have been used by Dreamworks and Universal for the last few months. I don't mind them.

If you want to talk cheap cases, I have to mention the single disc version of Sin City. That case is like the kind you get from aol when they're sending out their crappy browser discs.

The side locks are there to prevent thieves from just cutting the side plastic and opening the DVD case enough to get the disc out. It's a theft deterrent, that's all.

Alls they have to do is cut along one of the spine folds. It happens all the time at my work (Hollywood). Boxcutter through the thin fold and voila. There's always the back door.

These cases are designed for retail stores only. I was in Hollywood Video and Red Eye was in an amaray case.

I'm just shocked they actually used the original theaterical poster and not the floating faces for the Joe Six Pack Blockbuster crowd.

The Sin City case is not even close to the Red Eye one. I noticed immediately how cheap the Red Eye case was as soon as I picked it up (light) and even more so when I opened it. I'm glad i'm not the only one. My $2.00 Star Wait DVD from Target had a better case than this.

I don't have the disc, but I think I know what kind of case this is. Is it like the one for 12 Monkeys, where the outer plastic covering is so thin, it gets creased if you're not extra careful in removing the security stickers? It was a shame with that one because it came in a gold keepcase I don't have a replacement for.

And not to mention that there's no insert.

Like I said, it's a deterrant. It won't stop theft, but neither will slapping a Club on your steering wheel before you go to bed...it's a deterrant.

I wouldn't have noticed it, but now that you mention it, it does seem flimsy as hell.

I'm sorry I really don't understand the situation
and cases usually aren't limited to a title.
but studios should stick to typical amarays, not ones with latches or ones with the gap in the middle like Fox.
inserts are also missed.

I thought it was a small child detterent, my 5 year old has figured out how to open them though. It still keeps my 3 year old out of them though.

For those interested, the letters "THES" are on the inside of the locking tabs. A quick search didn't pull up anything, though.

I don't mind the the locking tabs as much as those cheap, flexible, Chinese made keepcases. They also smell bad!

Hah, I know exactly what you're talking about. It's the one with the 'push' button in the middle, but you can friggin bend the case like hell without much effort, that's how cheaply made it is. And it does indeed smell bad. They're not the Universal ones with the security tabs though, I always thought those were high quality cases. I guess they changed them?

I have alot of Universal, Dreamworks, and Paramount titles in the same case that Red Eye is in. I like them because the hub is very sturdy, keeping the disc firmly inside the case. The Sin City case is easily the cheapest case I've came across. I think I have 1 more title with that type. It has the brand INFINITI inside the case. No tabs
