Underworld Poll

in light of the sale this week, is this edition really worth an upgrade for people who already own it?

Cinemaddiction 01-10-06 01:44 AM

You'd be crazy not to. $14.99 for the 2 disc set, plus a bonus disc AND a ticket to the movie? In addition, the EE of "Underworld" plugs A LOT of holes the theatrical version left, i.e. Michael's origins, Kraven and Erika's past relationship.

Rockmjd23 01-10-06 01:46 AM

It's worth it if you have the original release, but not if you already have the 2-disc unrated, imo.

mifuneral 01-10-06 01:57 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is exactly the same as the 2 disc unrated extended edition. Except it's cheaper. And it has an Underworld 2 promo.

*shrugs* I already have the Unrated EE, and I don't need the promo to help me decide if I wanna see the sequel (I was already planning on going).

If you only had the original single disc, I'd say yeah, now's the time to upgrade. But if you already have the EE, obviously don't bother.

toddly6666 01-10-06 06:44 AM

It's definitely worth an upgrade...if you are a sucker!

FantasticVSDoom 01-10-06 07:38 AM

Hmmmm...Maybe I will upgrade since I still have the original release and there is a movie ticket.

Same here.

OldBoy 01-10-06 08:24 AM

where's it on sale? i can't seem to find it...

cisman 01-10-06 08:33 AM

I voted no since I have the Unrated version myself already but I'd be all over this if I had the original version and would just sell the original on ebay.

Shoot I'm still tempted since my version is a used copy but I"ll resist.

I'll be there probably that Friday night to see this one.

MovieExchange 01-10-06 08:59 AM

I held off on buying the single disc since I knew a 2-disc was coming. Then no one had a new copy of the 2-disc at a good price, and I never saw it at any of the used stores.

So yeah, I'm picking it up. Yet another movie cash coupon that I won't be able to use, though.

Giles 01-10-06 09:45 AM

I just bought the new edition from Best Buy and I don't see my promised ticket for the sequel - I am absolutely F***-ING livid.

Great...Im about to go pick it up, and if it isnt there I will have an annuerism. Maybe I should just pass.

dadaluholla 01-10-06 09:58 AM

Just about to head over to Wal-Mart at lunch to buy Transporter 2. If they's got this at a good price I might end up getting it. I have the old single disc version and I LOVE the movie, so it would be nice having an extended version. And a free ticket to see a movie I'm definitely going to is a plus.
:)

I would take it back to BB and tell them it's defective. They'll exchange it for a new copy and they'll open up the new one in the store. If the new one doesn't have the ticket, tell them that you only want it if the ticket is included. They'll either keep opening up new copies until they find one with the ticket included or they will have to give you a refund.

oh I hadn't thought of that, now there an idea, thanks Sweet Baby James. :)

tacos 01-10-06 11:27 AM

I thought the ticket was a BB exclusive? Is this not the case?
Thanks

Sweet Baby James 01-10-06 11:36 AM

I just looked at the BB ad for the free movie ticket and it says that you get a free movie ticket(up to $10 value) to see Underworld Evolution with the purchase of Underworld Unrated Extended Cut, Underworld Special Edition or Resident Evil Deluxe Edition. I can't see how they would include a ticket in the older Resident Evil and Underworld SE DVDs. I would conclude that the ticket isn't located inside the case-you probably have to ask for it at the register.

Scott Weinberg 01-10-06 11:43 AM

Looks to work out this way:

Best Buy: Buy the new Underworld "LE," the original SE, or the Resident Evil DE and you get movie cash for $10.

Circuit City: Buy the new Underworld "LE" and you get a throw-in disc that has some promotional stuff for Underworld: Evolution.

I'll be doing the upgrade, since I presently own the theatrical cut, and I want the upgrade. I think the added footage helps the flick a lot.

Trevor 01-10-06 11:51 AM

CC has a 3rd exclusive disc with this also.

alfonsosoriano 01-10-06 11:54 AM

So if you want the movie ticket, price match CC's price at Best Buy?

Sweet Baby James 01-10-06 11:59 AM

That's what I would do. However, if you do have to ask for the movie ticket, they might tell you that you can either take the ticket or the price match, but not both. Sometimes BB won't let you do a PM and also take an exclusive deal-definitely a YMMV.

dadaluholla 01-10-06 12:01 PM

I just bought it at Wal-Mart for $14 something. I wasn't aware the ticket deal was a Best Buy exclusive. Oh well. I still wanted the upgrade.
:)
It had the 3rd bonus disc in a seperate cardboard case shrinkwrapped together. I just took it out of there and put in a little paper sleeve inside the case.

so, wait, now I'm really confused, the ticket is offered when you buy the disc? It's not part of the packaging from Best Buy... ?? Cause the version I bought from Best Buy is the three disc version with the Underworld: Evolution Bonus disc.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt that the movie ticket is included in the packaging. I don't see how they could have a ticket for the upcoming movie inside of the Resident Evil case(one of the titles that qualifies for the free ticket). I would wager that you would have to ask the cashier for the ticket, the same way as when they hand out exclusive lithographs. There's even an item number for the movie ticket in the ad-7602506. If I wanted the ticket, I would go to BB and show the ad to a blue shirt and see what the dealio is.:)

cisman 01-10-06 01:09 PM

How much is RE going for at BB....that might be worth picking up since I'm going to see the new Underworld anyways.

Check this out.

From this it sounds like it's most likely something you have to pick up in the store.

Looks like I might not even have one... I thought the ticket was in all copies, but now people are saying it's a BB exclusive. I ordered mine from Amazon.com when they had a really low pre-order price on it.

tacos 01-10-06 01:45 PM

Did the old copy come with the slip cover? I thought I have seen it before without it. Anyway for 3 discs for $12.99 this is a very good deal. I just bought it blind at CC. No BB by me yet or I would have pricematched it there. $13 for a 3disc set and a free movie ticket would have been an even better deal.

John*D 01-10-06 01:55 PM

Considering they are going to make a 3rd film. I'm waiting for a trilogy boxset, if even more are going to be considered, I'll wait even longer.

It's just like with BLADE! I'm doing the same thing with FINAL DESTINATION! I can wait.

I do have the Underworld Superbit though...

Giles 01-10-06 02:19 PM

what a friggin' fiasco - after wasting thiry minutes of my time at BB - here's the story: Columbia/TriStar Home video supposedly gives each Best Buy a booklet of movie coupons that they hand out with the purchase of Resident Evil (Deluxe) and Underworld (Ext) - and as my misluck would have it - the Tenleytown BB didn't receive the movie coupons to distribute with these discs - so.... I'll have to wait til Friday when I'll get my coupon. (I hate this Best Buy with a passion)

FantasticVSDoom 01-10-06 04:05 PM

Oh thank god I decided against this...The way Best Buys are in Queens, they will never have the fucking ticket so Ill just stick with my old one for now, and wait for a trilogy set on HD or Blu-Ray.

Libby 01-10-06 05:50 PM

does anyone know if it includes best buys in Canada?

Shiv Shankly 01-10-06 06:52 PM

I bought the Underworld Extended Cut and didn't know about having to ask for the ticket, so I went back in and said I didn't get it in the package. A guy from the media section brings up what he says is the ticket, but when I looked at it at home, it states that it's only for Memoirs of a Geisha or Fun With Dick and Jane, so it appears I have to go back again, to get the actual ticket I should have gotten in the first place. What a pain in the ass.

Sweet Baby James 01-10-06 08:27 PM

That must be Best buy's new trick. Keep making you come back to the store in hopes that you might buy something else while you're there.:)

asianxcore 01-10-06 08:45 PM

yup. the movie is good fun, and as others have mentioned the 2nd disc of extras is nice.

Peep 01-10-06 10:33 PM

I think every store has the same bonus disc and the exclusive ticket being sold at BB is packaged seperately, which seems to be a new trend. This is at least the second time that they've done it. There were a bunch of $10 (or $15 maybe) discs a month ago that, if you bought, you would get a seperate free ticket good for either "Fun With Dick And Jane" or "Memoirs Of a Geisha".

Manzana 01-10-06 10:57 PM

As people have discovered, the movie ticket is separate at Best Buy. However, I'm still not clear of several things. It sounds like the DVDs at Best Buy, Walmart, and Circuit City all have 3 DVDs inside (I'm not going to open mine until I've figured out what's going on) based on others' comments.

I noticed the older 2-DVD Extended edition of Underworld has a slightly different slipcase and a UPC of 043396051942, while the reissued 2-DVD Extended edition has a UPC of 043396132931 and a sticker on front saying "Underworld Evolution Sneak Peek". If you look at the descriptions for the 2 editions below:

http://www.bordersstores.com/search/...sp?id=54278790
http://www.bordersstores.com/search/...sp?id=55731150

You'll see that the extras listed are slightly different. However, the back cover of the reissue exactly matches the old edition. Most important, the reissue mentions an Underworld Evolution sneak peek DVD. Unless they changed the contents of disc 2 this implies there must be a 3rd DVD inside the reissue with the sticker on the front. If that's the case, then Circuit City advertising the 3rd bonus DVD is not exclusive to CC.

The bottomline is that there appears to be NO LOSS IN CONTENT between the reissue and the previous 2-DVD Extended edition and the comic book and sketch booklet are also listed as included.

Can anyone confirm this is correct?

If so, then this is a great deal because you get the 3rd bonus DVD plus a movie ticket at Best Buy. Apparently some people had signs that let them get it for $9.99, but my Best Buy didn't have any signs that I could see so I paid $12.99.

Nocturnal 01-11-06 12:07 AM

Yes the ticket is separate. When I picked up the old extended edition on Sunday, the tickets were with the new releases/bestsellers.

I'm wondering if I should try to return the old edition for the new edition (I haven't opened it yet)
