The Simpsons DVDs --Will you stop, or will you buy them all?

Even though I asked for it, I didn't get The Simpsons Seventh Season DVD set for Christmas
(My family doesn't love me, but that's another issue... for Otterville, perhaps?)
So, I just purchased it today.

Anywho, I just started wondering (to myself, but out loud... in the aisle at Walmart) "How many of these things am I gonna buy anyways?"

Season Eight includes many episodes that I consider to be great:
the Treehouse of Horror with Clinton and Dole, another return of Sideshow Bob,
the X-Files episode, the Mary Poppins parody, the Poochie epsiode,
Homer the bootlegger, "Homer's Enemy", "Homer's Phobia"
and (of course) "The Simpsons' Spinoff Showcase"

But I think after that I might be done.
Not only have I decided (for myself) that the Spinoff Showcase is The Simpsons' "jump the shark" episode, but at that point I'll have 178 episodes on DVD (That's a lot of rewatching to do!).

Every fan of The Simpsons knows that the show has declined in quality over the years...

But at what point do you think you will stop buying The Simpsons DVD sets?
Or are you so much of a completist that you will buy them all no matter what?

ebay 1-5 was 97

i got 2 raincheck from target from black friday for s6. im buying both then bringing one to best buy to return for s7. i tried it last year and it was no problem. so i paid about 140 for 7 seasons. i think im just going to buy it all but the next time i think im going to wait for a box set of like season 8-12 or something. im not paying 30 bucks a season.

I am actually considering selling off all of the sets that I've bought thus far. I have up to Season Six, and I haven't even opened a single DVD set just because I'm unsure I want to keep any of them. I am a completist.. and I can't fathom buying any of the more recent seasons because most of the seasons consist of forgettable episodes. I'll probably buy them when the series is cancelled, and the inevitable "Complete Series" box set comes out.. Hopefully in some HD format disc so the complete series will fit on a shelf with ease in slimline cases.

I love The Simpsons and don't think there is any season with a lot of episodes I dislike so I'll buy them all. The completist in me will force me to buy all the one disc releases.

No poll?
I didn't make it a poll because when I started the thread my prejudice was that people would be like me.
I originally titled the thread: Simpsons DVDs: When are you going to stop buying?

I'm a huge Simpsons' fan, but I've (obviously) already decided that there's a point at which I don't want any more.
And I was wondering (what with all the Simpsons' fans around here) whether others had reached the same decision, and also wondering when they thought they would stop.

Then I realized that a lot of people were going to answer, "When they stop putting them out."

And I changed the thread title. But I neglected to make a poll, and I should have.
.................................................................................................

But for the "I'll buy 'em all" crowd, my question is:
Is it just about being a completist?
Or do you really think these things are worth buying? --especially considering the negative reactions that most episodes get these days.

And if it is a completion thing, isn't that gonna be an investment? They're on Season 17 now, and they don't appear to be stopping.

I too will stop with Season 8, and even that season is pushing it. It's execrable from then on. And no, I will not buy the head. The Head must die.

I'll be picking them all up. I don't watch any TV, except for TV on DVD. So this is the only way I'll be able to watch the episodes.

I don't care when I'll get around to rewatching an episode. The advantage of having them is that I *can* rewatch an episode if I want to, at any time.

I've already stopped, because I've boughten up to Season 5, and I haven't actually watched or even opened any of the sets yet. While I think the show was great until somewhere around Season 11, I haven't really had the desire to watch the DVDs, seeing as I've seen all the episodes I own numerous times in reruns.

Although the quality might have declined, to this day, I enjoy every Simpsons episode there is and will buy all the sets (as long as I don't die of natural causes...they are being released very slowly and there is no end in sight to the show)

I'll probably pick them up through season 10 and get all the head packagings.

Now South Park, on the other hand... I'll probably buy season 7 when it comes out, and that'll be the last one. I can't see buying season sets just for one or two good episodes.

I will buy them all. My husband and I watch the show every week. We still enjoy it, although it often seems as though they've forgotten how to end segments and/or episodes. The show premiered when we were married, December '89, and we were both in college at the time. I had an elderly woman, Dr. Van Zandt, for my literature class in satire. She really appreciated the show. I guess there is just something about The Simpsons that will always give us joy.
