Where do online dvd stores get their dvd lists??

Hello,

I was wondering if someone who is a part of an online dvd business or knows the business help me out with a question I have.

How do online dvd websites such as amazon, dvdempire, dvdplanet get their lists of dvd? Do they manually upload them to their webserver, is there a website where they get a database list which they then upload to there database, or do they parse a website to get the data??

I did find this website which has lists of dvd's in an excel file, but it does not have the thumbnails in the file.

http://www.hometheaterinfo.com/index.htm

Thank you for your help,
olimits7

Each big retail outfit works out something with each studio. Mostly it works like this:

Routine meeting/call/e-mail retailer has with studio rep:

"So, what's new at your studio?"

"Well, we've got upcoming DVDs of Super007 Part III, Small Wonder Season 14, and Count Chockula Meets Casper."

"I'll buy all those at the studio, but only small amounts on the kidvid Casper thing. Let's talk terms."

"Okay."

(terms and quantities are agreed on)

"Thanks, and we'll expect you to drop ship those on street date. E-mail us the details and I'll have an intern put it into the computer system and flag it to be seen by our customers on your announce date. Nice doing business with you."

Home Theater Info gathers their information from various sources (studio announcements, online vendors, etc.).

Many online vendors subscribe to Muze for the services you are describing. Some get this information from the various major suppliers (Ingram, Baker & Taylor, etc.).

Thank you for all your replies.

So basically when I setup a contract with a supplier/wholesaler they will be able to give me a dvd list of what they sell in a database format to upload to a server. Is this correct??

Is this the same way that they get information on new releases, coming soon dvds??

Thank you again,
olimits7
