What is "Infinifilm"?

I just got my first exposure to an "Infinifilm" disc in the form of Austin Powers in Goldmember. I got it in that $16.99 3 pack special at Best Buy.

I watched the first film and briefly checked out the other two, including Goldmember. But this Infinifilm stuff seems pretty annoying to me. First thought I had is, "What the hell is this, DVD for dummies?"

I'm thinking I might start taking the view that Infinifilm could be a reason not to buy a DVD.

So, what's the deal with Infinifilm? I'd like to know more. Do most think it's bad, or am I off base?

Rather than view it as a reason not to buy the DVD, I'd not use the Infinifilm feature....but maybe that's just me.

As emanon said, you don't have to enable the feature to watch the movie. It's a choice.

Other studios have a similar feature; it's just that New Line calls theirs "Infinifilm". The Matrix has the "Follow the White Rabbit" feature. Same thing, different name.

Its just another way for studios to deliver extra content to fans of the film; New Line accomplished this by building access to the extras into the movie viewing experience. I have a few Infinifilm DVDs (Elf, Thirteen Days) and did watch part of Thirteen Days with the Infinifilm option on, which was actually pretty cool (after having already seen the flick). Anyway, if ya don't like it, don't use it, but its nice to have the option.

Infinifilm is a type of dvd that advertises subtitles but doesnt really have them on the disc.
