I actually never clean my collection, but there is a method to my madness. I have my collection in thin metal racks attached to my Entertainment Center. Those on the racks are ones that still have packaging on them. I also have a Sony 400 disc changer, so once I open one, I put the case in a box and the DVD remains in the player. The plastic covering the movies gets a little dusty, but that is all. Oh, and the top of the DVD changer!
I actually am running out of room in the player, so that means another one on top of that one! Good news, the first one's top won't get as dusty. The bad news, I still have one top to clean.

I try to ensure they stay organized throughout the year and re organize every few months but dusting isnt something I do. I figure thats why dvds are kept in cases. To keep the dust out.

I'd say about every 2 weeks I'll wipe at them with a towel, but once a month I'll take them off the shelves to wipe off the top and Windex the shelves. I do the TV stand at the same time, then vacuum the whole place. I didn't used to keep a schedule (and it's not like I have a day planned for it), but I got tired of the run-around-clean-everything-because-people-are-coming-over years ago.
