It seems like no one's buying this, so no one will be able to answer our questions.

I'm hoping that rebelscum/theforce.net will get a detailed review (both with pictures of the packaging and a description of what -- if any -- audio tweaks are present).

From the HTF:

"My brother still needs the trilogy and doesn't care about extras, so I picked it up this morning. I can't check ANH for the 5.1 (I'm at work), but I'm not hopeful.

I checked ROTJ for contrast, and they look identical. All the TS files are dated exactly the same on both discs-6/14/2004."

That was me. Been trying to post another reply at HTF, but the site's been borked since their software upgrade.

Anyway, all three discs have TS files dated May or June 2004. Discs appear identical. At least it didn't cost me anything extra to find this out (bro is paying me for the set).

Thanks for the info. It sounds like these discs are straight re-issues. I was hopeful that these discs would have a new audio mix, but not really optimistic. This is a big skiperoo for me.

Well, I was kinda hoping for a good reason to get a set with the better art, but I guess that's more money for other DVDs.

I'd rather give $40 to Paul Champagne for a decent cover for the 4 disc set.

This star wars trilogy release is just what it says the star wars trilogy, nothing else. The three star wars movies in a box.

I still can't really believe they released another one so soon. I guess it could be worse. This set could have come out first with the four disc set a year later.

They could have at least lowered the price a bit more.

Oh come on now. That DVDtalk website sucks. It's much better over here at HTF.

you definitely got that confused. See how you just had a "free" thought? Then this HAS TO be DVDtalk.

They did lower the price. Wal-Mart has the new trilogy set for $31.99 this week, the previous one with the bonus disc is still hanging around $49.99.

So if someone has neither (just the old "5 star" version).... Is the "bonus disk" worth the $18, or should "my friend" go the cheap way out and buy the three-disc for now (and buy another DVD too) and wait for the inevitable deluxe edition that may never come...

If you want a complete set of extras, buy the 4D set. There's no guarantee that any extras here will be rehashed on a later set. The 4th disc is good too.
