I am surprised that there aren't more anime threads except for a Ghost in the Shell here and there.Anime is more than meets the eye and has more to offer than todays animation.

I cover anime DVDs for a magazine and an industry report so I get a lot of them gratis, but when I have holes in collections, even I can't resist forking over the $

I used to be pretty big in anime, but I just lost interest in it over time. Too much was coming out to keep up with, and more and more the Yugioh (sp) type crap seemed to be dominating the scene.

No hentai = no $ale!
Just kidding
I enjoy anime but I'm not into it big time: I only have 40 or so anime DVDs. There's some pretty cool stuff out there that I enjoy as much as live action films.

The anime I actually buy for my collection is few and far between compared to what I watch. I typically buy the Miyazaki films, and then the odd movie or series every year or so. Currently I am picking up Samurai 7 and awaiting the second Tenchi disc, but befoe that it had a couple years since I bought a series.

I think it's a great time to be an anime fan. I got into anime last year to diversify my collection and have been hooked since. There are some solid feature length movies, but the television series are outstanding. Production values are always going up, along with sheer visual quality due to great strides in CGI technology. There are a number of titles that are quite accessible to non-anime viewers. Right now, I'm currently watching (and buying) Gungrave, both seasons of Ghost in the Shell: SAC, and Samurai Shamploo.

I haven't really had much desire to purchase anime since completing the "Excel Saga" series.
I liked Azumanga, but it didnt inspire crazy searching in this "new territory" like Excel did.
I'll probably watch the new Tenchi that my girlfriend will end up buying but i get the feeling my anime days are over.

I think anime is decent, but I never really got into it. I have Spirited Away, and that little anime section in Kill Bill with O-Ren Ishii as a child. So that's about 1.3 animes.

i probably only own about 10 anime dvds and i've watched anime since back in the early 90s. i would like to collect more but anime dvds are pathetic. Way overpriced for usually 4 measly eps, never go on sale cuz they're not big sellers, and have next to no special features. they just don't take advantage of the format !! The other day I was checking out a recent FMA (Full Metal Alchemist) release and it had English 5.1 and Japanese MONO (!?!?!) as the audio tracks. Just sad...
and CGI in anime ?? yuck... but thats just me =P

I've been watching anime for about 8 years now and its come a long way. I have a collection of about 250-300 anime dvds and I try to catch the best deals on quality shows that get released. In my opinion, anime frequently gets overlooked, or people get turned off early on in their first exposure to anime. No doubt there are the shittier shows that get released into mainstream and somebody who has never seen anime before goes "wtf..anime is lame". Anime is excellent at bringing about character development with the average series spanning at about 6 hours, and with the use of solid animation there are many unique charecteristics and styles that can be expressed in a way that is difficult to create in live filming (ie. fantasy, fanservice, ultraviolence, etc.) I've seen a lot of live film and I appreciate it, but anime seems to get tossed out too quickly. Give it a chance, there's lots of good shows out there...so if you see a crappy anime just move on to the next just like you would after seeing a crummy movie. There are soo many shows that are worth catching in anime, just make sure you don't miss them due to prematurely deciding anime sucks. WORD!

nope...i take the freebies i get...and buy a movie here and there....just don't collect series because it gets to expensive. Same reason i don't have a ton of tv sets.... i have seen some great stuff, just don't care to own most of it.

I just bought the "Now and Then, Here and There" collection over the weekend, and I have each volume of Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig pre-ordered from DDD (when they're made available). I've really cut down on my anime purchases lately though, as it was simply costing too much, and I'm finding that there's much less I'm really interested in. SAC also set the bar really freakin' high, and anything less, I'm much less inclined to spend money on.

I'm very very into feature length Anime, and own a few of the "classics" like Akira, Nausicca, and a lot of newer CG titles like Appleseed. I would really like to get into a few of the series, but the cost per episode is through the roof, so I can't afford it

I've just started. I have the Elfen Lied series and Fruits Basket along with Cowboy Bebop the movie and Fullmetal Alchemist disc 1 signed by Ed's english voice and the director (I think, I'll need to check it out when I get home). There's a lot more I need to pick up though.

I buy a few here and there
I have actually cut down on my anime buying significantly in the last year or so. For awhile I was buying a bunch of series as they were coming out, but I reserve that now for only the special ones.
There are some great series airing right now in Japan that I will be picking up once they get released here in R1. And we are finally getting a release of Jungle wa itsumo Hare nochi Guu next month. :yay:
