Poirot Box Set Question
I'm trying to collect all episodes and full length movies of the Poirot A&E series, but I'm getting VERY confused, especially with the two-hour full length movies.
I've just ordered:
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Classic Collection
--- which claims to have all 36 one-hour episodes
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The New Mysteries Collection
--- Death on the Nile
--- The Hollow
--- Five Little Pigs
--- Sad Cypress
I already own two box sets which I picked up at Costco a while ago:
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Movie Collection Set 1
--- The Mysterious Affair at Styles
--- The ABC Murders
--- Hickory Dickory Dock
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Movie Collection Set 2
--- Death on the Links
--- One, Two, Buckle My Shoe
--- Death in the Clouds
Can anyone tell me what I am missing?!?!?! This is driving me crazy, mainly because when I look up Poirot box sets on Amazon, I get different combinations as the box sets I got from Costco.
Thanks very much!!

In R2 (which are supposed to have the correct aspect ratio?? Anyone confirm?) the DVDs appear as 7 collections of seven seasons. But I thought there were more seasons. Wikipedia (not known for accuracy) does show 12.
Are there films before the series or when people speak about the Poirot film collection are they talking about early seasons? I'd like to get them all.

I still need to pick up the 7th series from Amazon UK, but will pick it up soon. I dumped my A&E sets long ago and ended up making a lot more than the UK set cost me so I picked up the complete Cadfael R2 set as well. Again a much better set than the expensive US version.

Thanks...I just ordered them as sort of a family present. So what about the Cadfael set? Is that really butchered? I was just looking over that. Is it worth selling the set I have and getting the R2?

No, the Cadfael set from Acorn is fine and from what I could tell about the same in both regions. However, the UK set was much cheaper at the time I picked it up. I think I paid a quarter of the Region 1 complete set. That is really its only main advantage. It has some audio interviews with Derek Jacobi that may not be on the US release, but they are fairly short. If you already have the US Cadfael release just stick with it there is no reason to go through the hassle of replacing it.

Re: Poirot Box Set Question
Bumping this to mention I finally got around to ordering the 7th volume of Poirot. With the value of the pound falling so much recently it was finally a good deal. I got it for $28 shipped for four 90 minute episodes. This series was done on ITV and is by far the best looking episodes of Poirot yet. Granted these are later Christie books and not quite her best stories, but the first two I have watched were definitely enjoyable and well produced. The set is packaged a bit differently with keepcases inside a box, but the box lines up perfectly with the 1-6 volume box set and has the same art style.

Bumping this for two reasons.
#1 - DDD is having a big sale on various Christie sets right now.
#2 - I'm completely confused as to which ones to buy.

Re: Poirot Box Set Question
A while ago I used the Amazon(s) to cross reference and came up with this list:
===============================
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Classic Collection (all 36 hour-long shows) Series 1: (1989)
The Adventure of the Clapham Cook (Set 9)
Murder in the Mews (Set 10)
The Adventure of Johnnie Waverly (Set 10)
Four and Twenty Blackbirds (Set 10)
The Third-Floor Flat (Set 11)
Triangle at Rhodes (Set 11)
Problem at Sea (Set 11)
The Incredible Theft (Set 12)
The King of Clubs (Set 12)
The Dream (Set 12)
Series 2: (1990)
The Veiled Lady (Set 1)
The Lost Mine (Set 1)
The Cornish Mystery (Set 2)
The Disappearance of Mr Davenheim (Set 1)
Double Sin (Set 2)
The Adventure of the Cheap Flat (Set 2)
The Kidnapped Prime Minister (Set 3)
The Adventure of "The Western Star" (Set 3)
Series 3: (1990-1991)
How Does Your Garden Grow? (Set 3)
The Million Dollar Bond Robbery (Set 4)
The Plymouth Express (Set 4)
Wasps' Nest (Set 4)
The Tragedy at Marsdon Manor (Set 5)
The Double Clue (Set 5)
The Mystery of the Spanish Chest (Set 5)
The Theft of the Royal Ruby (Set 6)
The Affair at the Victory Ball (Set 6)
The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge (Set 6)
Series 5: (1993)
The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb (Set 7)
The Under Dog (Set 7)
Yellow Iris (Set 7)
The Case of the Missing Will (Set 8)
The Adventure of the Italian Nobleman (Set 8)
The Chocolate Box (Set 8)
Dead Man's Mirror (Set 9)
The Jewel Robbery at the Grand Metropolitan (Set 9)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Classic Collection, Volume 2 (9 movie-length)
The ABC Murders
Death in the Clouds
The Mysterious Affair at Styles
Peril at End Hous
One, Two, Buckle My Shoe
Dumb Witness
Hercule Poirot's Christmas
Hickory Dickory Dock
Murder on the Links
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The above 2 sets cover all the original TV Episodes.
=====================================================
Then you have:
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Classic Crimes Collection
The Mystery of the Blue Train
After the Funeral
Cards on the Table
Taken at the Flood
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The New Mysteries Collection
Death on the Nile
The Hollow
Sad Cypress
The Five Little Pigs
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Complete Collection
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Lord Edgeware Dies
Evil Under the Sun
Murder in Mesopotamia
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Now in Sept 2008 they (A & E) released:
Agatha Christie's Poirot: The Definitive Collection
THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD
LORD EDGWARE DIES
MURDER IN MESOPOTAMIA
EVIL UNDER THE SUN
DEATH ON THE NILE
SAD CYPRESS
THE HOLLOW
FIVE LITTLE PIGS
THE MYSTERY OF THE BLUE TRAIN
TAKEN AT THE FLOOD
AFTER THE FUNERAL
CARDS ON THE TABLE
--------------------------------------------------------------
On these you only need the 3 small sets or the last one that has all 12 Movies that were done after the original series.
Then you will have everything that has been released so far.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Now, you probably noticed that they have just recently started releasing small box sets again this year. These are the original series broken down. You don't need them again.
Except for:
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Movie Collection - Set.4
This has 2 movies that are newer and not included in any previous set:
Mrs. McGinty’s Dead
Cat Among the Pigeons
and there is another 2 movies to come on a yet unannounced Set 5.
Anyway, I know it's confusing as hell. The best thing to do is copy this paste it in Word or whatever and print it out. Then cross off what you have and see what's left. And make sure you don't buy ones you already have.
HTH,
James

Re: Poirot Box Set Question
O.K. I had a look at your list.
You have the 36 original one hour ones.
Don't buy: Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Classic Collection, Volume 2 (9 movie-length)
You already have:
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Movie Collection Set 1 (3 Movies)
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Movie Collection Set 2 (3 Movies)
So you only need Set 3 (3 Movies)
This will cover all the original series.
----------------------------------------------
And since you have:
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The New Mysteries Collection (4 movies)
You still need:
------------------------------------------------------------
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Classic Crimes Collection
The Mystery of the Blue Train
After the Funeral
Cards on the Table
Taken at the Flood
------------------------------------------------------------
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Complete Collection
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Lord Edgeware Dies
Evil Under the Sun
Murder in Mesopotamia
-------------------------------------------------------
This will cover all the movies (12) that were done after the original series.
And lastly buy (when they are relaesed):
Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Movie Collection Set 4 and Set 5
I think that's right. You can double check.
