I just read Ebert's 1982 review. He didn't seem to dislike the film, just thought the story was not as well-done as the special effects. Suntimes.com has his 1982 review and 1992 re-appraisal.

So what became of this re-release? Is there already an official release date?

Yeah, hopefully this is still on. Never bought the other edition so I'll definitely pay for this one...

No link for it on Amazon yet, but I know one of the guys who works at the DVD studio that's putting it together (New Line farmed it out to a third party). I need to give him another call and find out what's happening with it.

The Warner guys don't generally weigh-in on New Line releases; New Line has their own home video department.

Dark CIty is getting a re-release in one of the triple movie packs...3 movies on 2 disc, should be exactly the same as whats out

i wouldn't say its not happening...probably a new release to come same day and date they release it in HD

I'm getting tired of waiting for this, and DDD has it for next to nothing even before the 20% off.

I'm just concerned the current release isn't anamorphic. The box just says "letterboxed", and no sites list it as anamorphic, or "enhanced for 16x9"....just "widescreen".

Can someone confirm?

The Dark City Platinum Series DVD is anamorphic (the widescreen side of course).

Depends on how bad you want to enjoy the film now, yes? Don't count on the DC coming from around the corner, although I can't wait for the HD release that was promised.

Bottom line, despite it's age, this dvd still looks awesome. Get it.

For four bucks? It's a no brainer. The new disc is likely coming out next year but:

1. nothing has been officially announced yet
2. the current disc is four bucks
3. the theatrical cut is OOP
4. the current disc is four bucks
5. there's no guarantee that you won't prefer the theatrical cut
6. the current disc is four bucks

I wouldn't spent too much energy agonizing over this one. Go ahead and pull the trigger... and enjoy.
