Because I loved Serenity and Firefly and I was just teasing? I poke fun at everything, particularly things I like.
I was serious about the rich benefactor, though. I'm kind of surprised that something like that has never happened. If I was a billionaire, I'd toss some money at a Serenity sequel. (I figured it would definitely be worth it for Lucas, if only so he could study how to write loveable characters and good dialogue. |

As for Lucas, I've only seen the one Star Wars film, so I guess I'll just have to take everyone's words on him (which haven't been very praising)! |
Yeah, I reread the posts I'd just made and I could see how they could seem meanspirited. Sorry - they weren't meant to be.
I've seen it twice in the theaters, have the Firefly DVDs and the comic books are sitting on my coffee table right now. I'm also still holding out hope for another visit to this little world, obviously to the point of desperation, which is where my odd fantasy of someone personally bankrolling the other movies came from. |

And I'll repeat for the benefit of anyone reading this who might want to call me a Lucas basher. I LOVE STAR WARS. I've seen the OT more times than I can count, seen the PT a bunch of times, read many of the novels, bought some of the figures. So to anyone who wants to dismiss my "Mal is better than Han because he is a deeper, fleshed-out character" as Lucas or Star Wars bashing: shut up. |

Have they already announced that there will be a second DVD release, or was that all fanboy speculation? $30 just seems like kind of a steep MSRP. I was hoping this one would be a bit cheaper. |
I'm not even going to buy this DVD because it doesn't have a DTS track.
(Ok, any movie industry executives in the house, don't read any further.) Not really. I'll be buying the first release and the second if and when it comes along. A DTS track would be nice, as would a commentary track with the whole cast. Also, the River Tam Sessions and anything else which didn't make the first release. |
Oh jesus, we aren't going to do the typical Lucas vs Peter Jackson style debate here, are we? Because really.. it's not even ontopic.
JackS <hint, signing your post with your own name is silly since we already know who wrote it.. you don't have multiple people typing from your account, do you?> |
I unintentionally missed this at the local cinema, and I really wanted to see it. I'll blind buy it for sure, and blind buy Firefly while I'm at it.
|
I'm assuming the actual street price will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $20? We diehards will have to have it regardless, but people won't blind buy it for more than that pricing area and hey, we've had it repeatedly pointed out to us that it needs to recoup it's losses.

RichC <I've been signing my posts the same way for 20 years. I'm not going to change now.> |
I'm all over this, but hopefully I can find it cheaper than $20.

Really enjoyed Serenity! Looking forward to the DVD...

For those of you talking about a rich benefactor for Serenity sequels, it has been done before. Members of (I believe) Pink Floyd and the Beatles paid for Monty Python's Life of Brian to be made, because at that point it appeared that the pythons would never be able to make another movie and those musicians wanted to see one.

George Harrison ended up funding Monty Python's Life of Brian after the original backers dropped out shortly before filming began. Eric Idle has often quipped that it's the most any one person has paid to see a movie. No other members of the Beatles were involved in the funding. |

BUT, they also have been very good about including a DTS soundtrack, so the $1 or $2 more in price was worth it. I bet this release won't be less than $17.99 and possibly $19.99. We might see some sort of deal with the tv boxset at BB though. |
12/20/2005.....GEEK Holiday. I'm there as soon as the stores open.

I feel like 12/13 might have been a better pick, but maybe distribution was an issue. Hopefully, they will advertise it well. |
Wouldn't this make a MUCH better cover?
It would actually stick out on the shelves and look interesting to people who have never heard of it. http://www.moviepostersdirect.com/up...large/5209.jpg |
