Seriously though, wasn't there some thing a while back where movie theater prints had white dots imprinted that were below human vision thresholds, but would show up when recorded by a camcorder or something?

Ian: I see white dots.
Malcolm: In your dreams?
[Ian shakes his head no]
Malcolm: While you're watching DVD?
[Ian nods]
Malcolm: White dots like, Grains? Interference?
Ian: Flashing around like dots on the screen. They don't see each other. They only see when the DVD gets re-wound. They don't know they're white dots.
Malcolm: How often do you see them?
Ian: All the time.

The only white dots I know of are the ones on theatrical prints to help identify bootlegger sources--they started getting put on some popular films a couple years back... Or, of course, the end-of-reel watermark rings... Neither one should be on standard DVDs...
