Fantastic 4 - Wal*Mart Exclusive???

I saw this mentioned on the HTF board...

Walmart is offering some sort of exclusive Fantastic Four item with the DVD for both WS/FS. It's about $8 more than buying the regular versions. There isn't any mention of what this exclusive is; whether it be a DVD, CD, book, etc...

Given FOX's habit of releasing a single disc and then doing a 2-disc shortly down the road it's pretty much guaranteed that FOX will double dip on this movie. I know R2 is getting a 2-disc right away, but I wonder if this Walmart exclusive is going be a extra DVD? Any thoughts?

I think region 4 is also getting the 2 disc set.. however region 1 is getting DTS.

I'm usually a little disappointed if we don't get a 2 disc from the get go, but if it has DTS, it makes up for it with me. By the way, is this a good blind buy if I like most of the other comic book movies?

I don't understand why the US keeps getting screwed on these releases. I mean they are our damn movies. Shouldn't we be getting the best? I guess they realize that we are suckers for the double dip.

F4 is a lighter tone movie.. if you are expecting like batman begins or hulk type of movie then you might be dispointed.. its certain better then some of the other comic books movies. .depends on who you ask?
I think its a good blind buy.

If you look at all the special features from the Region 2 and compare it with the region 1 specs, they are pretty much about the same. It's not like we are getting a barebones release since it is just a 1 disc edition. No doubt Fox will double dip on this but it is not a barebones release as past Fox titles.

You've got to love Walmart for charging more money for a store exclusive.

Well we don't know what it is, so it may be well worth the extra money. Plus they are still selling the standard versions for less than $16 so it's not like they are forcing you to buy the exclusive version.

Maybe it's the soundtrack or something even better? I think I might try to email them and see what they say.

Its probably just one of the thousands of Mr. Fantastic action figures they have left over in the clearance racks.

I know you're not forced to buy an exclusive, but Best Buy doesn't charge extra for exclusive bonus discs. When I bought South Park S2 from them, it came with a FREE uncut pilot episode. Walmart's also offering a bonus disc for Revenge of the Sith and they're charging $5-$6 more for it. I just think it's stupid.

If it comes with it's own box and boxart as shown here, then I'd pay an extra $5 for it.

If the other 3 discs are just cartoon episodes, I'll be pissed...

I'm gonna gather that at least one of those discs is the CD soundtrack. What's on the other two is beyond me.

Doesn't Buena Vista own the 60s and 90s animated series?

Me too. It's as if Best Buy grew tired of seeing people go elsewhere for the same product...just cheaper. So, what do they do? Throw a half an hour of content on a separate disc, call it an exclusive, and hope people fall for it. I'm interested to see what kind of unclaimed junk they managed to scrape together for an "exclusive 4-disc set."

WOAH! That's a big puppy! I totally forgot about creating this thread. I'm glad Wal*Mart hasd unveiled the pic and some info on the extra.

Now I gotta figure which to get? Maybe I'll get both and sell the DVD of the film from the walmart doublepack. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the heck that 4 disc thing is, but the soundtrack is likely one the discs.

Perhaps....(like the UK Battlestar Galactica S1 set)....Best Buy has managed to wrangle the second disc of extras from the UK? Exclusive to Best Buy until Fox releases their 2-Disc Director's Cut with the UK extras? Add that and the CD soundtrack, that only leaves one more disc unaccounted for.

Worse case scenerio: It's all the Fox/Marvel films in one package (FF, X-Men 1 & 2, Daredevil).

Well if it's worth owning, I can pick it up release day and use the Wal-Mart gift card (that's been burning a hole in my pocket) to get their bonus disc. Sell the Wal-Mart FF disc and bundle the bonus disc with Best Buys and have a Fantastic Five box set.

Elektra is also Fox/Marvel.
