Good Blind Buys

I'm about to blind buy alien quadrilogy box set mostly everyone on the forum says its an awesome set so i'm gonna go for it, never seen any of the movies but i love sci-fi.

Just wonder what movies you guys have blind bought and really enjoyed? I know theres a forum about people regretting there blind buys but how about one that you really really were happy you bought?

I know how things can slip by but you've never seen the first Alien yet you love sci-fi? Damn! It's a pretty hefty price for a blind-buy but it's a great set.

There are so many blind-buys I've been happy with but I'll list a few:

Demonlover
Irreversible
Audition
Dog Soldiers
The Devil's Backbone
Heavenly Creatures
Donnie Darko
Ghost World
May
Cure
Grave of the Fireflies
Metropolis
(anime)

At least half of my collection. Take a peek.

Though, a few favs would be:

Band of Brothers
THX 1138
anything Pixar

As far as the Alien Quad goes .. enjoy it!!!! It's a great set even if, as others have mentioned, it's a steep blind buy.

About 70% of over 1500 DVDs are blind buys and I have really enjoyed both. Alot of DVDs are blind in the fact I never saw the movie before, but I mostly likely really like the actors or director/writer. The best blind buys have been TV shows. I never watched much TV, now I'm hooked on TV on DVD. I bought blind and loved X-files, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Roswell, smallville and Millenium. I have about 20 other series on DVD and have never not liked any of them. Stuff like 24, CSI, Gilmore Girls are all very good, but not quite on the X-Files/Buffy level.

Movies I own every Woody Allen movie on DVD, and I had never seen any of them. I just started with Annie Hall and was hooked. I bought Rushmore blind because I loved the trailer. Now I'm a Wes Anderson nut.

Speaking of the Alien quadrilogy. I had only seen Alien and parts of Aliens over the years on TV, and I bought it the day it came out and it was well worth it. All enjoyable movies with incredible extras.

Every Hitchcock film I own has been a pleasant blind buy.

My most expensive blind buy was the Kurosawa Four Samurai Classics collection, and I couldn't have been happier. It sent me spiraling into a Kurosawa craze.
My most recent blind buy was High Tension, which I've become very fond of.
Much of my collection are blind buys, but I always research about the movie thoroughly before I buy and have a good idea that I'll love it. If I don't, I rent it on Netflix.

What the hell difference does it make? We don't know what movies YOU like! You probably don't like the ones I like.

The Shawshank Redemption. Never had any interest in ever seeing this as I don't like prison movies. I ended up buying it as an enrollment from Columbia House. This is one of my favorite movies now.

A few blind buys I intend to get when the price is right are: Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, and Arrested Development.

If you liked City Slickers you should check out the sequel, if you haven't already. It was even better imo.

I don't buy a lot blind, but here are some I particularly enjoyed:

The Hurricane (this one I knew absolutely nothing about & found fascinating)
Manchurian Candidate (original)
Quills (I really liked the commentary)
Call Northside 777

Good blind buys for me:

Angel Heart
Goodfellas
Hotel Rwanda
Jackie Brown
Machinist
Raging Bull
Stand By Me
Lords of Dogtown
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Kung Fu Hustle

Not so good:
Showtime (which I don't own anymore)
Godzilla (also dumped, what a waste of $5.50)

I'm planning on blind buying that when I have some extra cash burning a hole in my pocket. I almost got it last week, but decided to get the lego millenium falcon set instead.

24 Hour Party People. Being from England I loved the Madchester music scene in the early 90s and loved bands like the Happy Mondays and Stone Roses and had heard some good buzz about the movie. I thought i would buy it as i like Steve Coogan and the film sounded interesting. I cannot recommend it enough. Fantastic film....great story, very funny, great performances and top music.

i pretty much rarely blind buy, and over the past year i think all of them have been criterions, ive cut back my dvd spending so in turn blind buying cuts back too, but ive been happy with pretty much everything thus far.
