Welcome to the Finals of the DVDTalk Draft Tournament (2nd Edition)! In this
thread
, the players drafted a roster of ten DVDs each. Now, it is up to you, the DVDTalk community, to vote on who has the best collection.

We are now down to the last two collections. Congrats to our finalists, who each had to beat some stiff competition to get here. In order to vote, simply fill out the poll attached to this thread. Note that this is a public poll. Furthermore, feel free to add comments to this thread telling us why you voted how you did.

Players in the game are also allowed to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.

So, let the voting begin! The poll closes Monday, October 17th @ 11:00am EST. Match-ups will be listed in the first reply to this post.

Good luck to both our finalists!

-ahem- I believe I beat you to the punch with that request yesterday :p

Groucho 10-14-05 10:20 AM

I voted for Cleaver. What it ultimately came down to was that he had the full LOTR EE trilogy, whereas jfrost only had one movie from that collection.

jpfisher 10-14-05 10:27 AM

I almost voted for cleaver, his collection is solid.. but I hated Monsters Inc with enough passion to push my vote the other way. Sorry man, but you're gonna get the Fly anyway. ;)

That about sums it up for me as well.

Toben 10-14-05 10:58 AM

Gotta go with Cleaver on this one also.

Shagrath 10-14-05 10:59 AM

Cleaver for the win.

illennium 10-14-05 11:03 AM

Man, both collections are so boring. Decent movies but none that belong on a top-ten list. My vote goes to jfrost because of his inclusion of Undeclared and because of my distaste for Superbits.

jpfisher 10-14-05 11:09 AM

It appears that more mainstream "safe" choices win.

I've already got my list worked out for the next time we do this, and I fully expect another first round exit... but it's the list I want to put together, so that's more important to me.

I went round-by-round, head to head, and here is how I have it:
1- Cleaver (medium close: if only it was the REAL original trilogy, lol)
2- Cleaver (not close; BHD is a great dvd but only an abover-average movie)
3- Cleaver (very, very close but the Ebert commentary seals the deal)
4- Cleaver (not close; t2: ue set the standard for dvd extras; also, it is just a more enjoyable movie in my opinion)
5- Jfrost (not close, True Romance is a great movie and a wonderful dvd)
6- Jfrost (very close; movies in my mind are equal, but usual suspects has good extras)
7- Cleaver (not close; like Woo but you can't beat the greatness of Simsons S5. Plus there is a commentary on every episode, gotta love those Simpsons dvds)
8- Cleaver (very close, but what can you say about the Godfather).
9- jfrost (not a huge Monsters Inc. fan, and Undeclared is a great series)
10- Cleaver (medium close; two words: Hamster Factor. Greatest. Movie. Documentary. Ever. Besides. Hearts. of. Darkness.)

So Cleaver takes it 7-3. Great choices though Jfrost.

jfrost's Collection:

I'm not a fan of "True Romance" or "Usual Suspects" (personally,I just think as films that they're overrated), but everything else I quite enjoy watching over and over. The inclusion of "Fargo" and "Undeclared" (which I think are often underrated by most people) pushes this collection into the winner's circle for me.

Cleaver's Collection:

Definitely not a fan of "Monster, Inc." or "12 Monkeys" (again, it's a personal thing), and I think the entire LOTR trilogy is overrated (although I like the first installment very much, especially the extended version). (I'm probably , also, one of the few people on the planet who isn't a "Simpsons" fan, so that pick didn't do it for me, either.)

So, it came down to a couple of films on one list that I liked more than a couple of films on the other list that I didn't like as much.

(JFrost, don't forget to send me your copy of The Fly after you win it. Just kidding. :D2: )

Tough choice. I voted jfrost. Star Wars, Jaws, Fargo, Usual Suspects...good stuff there.

jfrost, I think you meant to say that the poll closes on Monday, October 17th at 11:00am.

spartanstew 10-14-05 02:00 PM

Cleaver

island007 10-14-05 02:08 PM

It came down to the two big-guns their first choice. SW or LOTR : Jackson or Lucas

I like and own almost every item in both collections. The only ones I don't have are their TV stuff (Undeclared and Simpsons) and Hard Boiled (I've got The Killer instead).

Anyway, my vote is in.

The Ferret 10-14-05 02:29 PM

Cleaver

jfrost:
love - Star Wars, LOTR EE
like - fargo, usual suspects

cleaver:
love - LOTR EE, Citizen Kane, Lawrence, Godfather
like - T2, Simpsons, 12 Monkeys

das Monkey 10-14-05 03:28 PM

A lot of titles cancel ouch each other here (I own all 20, er 19 with overlap), so ultimately it comes down to a battle between Star Wars and LOTR. Since I believe the EE set is a superior DVD release, I go with Cleaver.

It boils down to which list has more titles I'd like to watch and appreciate. Cleaver got my vote because of Lawrence of Arabia, Godfather, Monsters Inc, Pulp Fiction, Snow White, yes and LOTR. The only missing factor on both lists is a lack of foreign films (save for Hard Boiled, but its basically an action film.)

jfrost gets my vote. if franchot was still in it i would have voted for him. you were robbed dude.
