DVDTalk Draft Game (2nd Edition)...Semi Final Voting...Open to all!
Welcome to the Semi Finals (round four) of the DVDTalk Draft Tournament (2nd Edition)! In this
thread, the players drafted a roster of ten DVDs each. Now, it is up to you, the DVDTalk community, to vote on who has the best collection.
The winner of the game will win a copy of The Fly (Collector's Edition) courtesy of UpcomingDiscs.com.
For round 4, each of the round three winners have been randomly paired up. In order to vote, you need to reply to this post telling me who you think has the best roster. Your vote will not count unless you vote on every pair!
Players in the game are also allowed to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.
So, let the voting begin! The polls close exactly 24 hours after the timestamp of this post (not counting weekends). Match-ups will be listed in the first reply to this post.
Good luck to all the participants!
Quarter Final Results
Scott27 (21 votes) over Toben (16 votes)
Franchot (29 votes) over Mrs.Nesbit (8 votes)
Cleaver (22 votes) over Count de Monet (15 votes)
Jfrost (19 votes) over The Ferret (18 votes)

Damn losing by 21 votes is harsh.

This was almost too easy:
This was almost too easy:
His big name picks aren't my favorites, but it's a stronger list as a whole: jfrost. And while his opponent's list has more depth, I can't fight the EE simian power of Cleaver.

Time to state my strategy.
I chose movies over content. (Who wants to watch a bunch of special features if the the movie isn't any good? Well...not me.)
I chose the only three movies that were able to win Academy Awards for the top five spots:
Best Picture
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Director
Best Screenplay
And those films are: It Happened One Night/One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest/Silence Of The Lambs
And those films are from different decades and genres so that's an added plus.
Add in a little classic foreign film by Bergman (Seventh Seal), some popular escapist fare (Indy Jones), a classic TV show that's still funny and loved by millions (Honeymooners), a controversial and ground-breaking comedy from the 60's (Graduate), one of the best loved romantic/adventure movies of all time with an excellent cast of actors (Casablanca), one of the few sequels that betters the original (Godfather II) (again with an excellent cast), and one of my favorite films from which is arguably the best decades in cinema, the 70's (Last Picture Show)
and you have a special collection of films that has heart, humor, and intelligence which doesn't rely only on special effects and CGI.
