Does this look like the international forum? There are a ton of links there already.

Let's keep this on topic: The Game SE.

not at all, but we discussed this Belgian release in a few posts so i was wondering, since this is very much on topic of this thread, where you can get the Belgian release. it takes 1 post and doesn't infringe on the topic at hand: The Game SE in the least?

so anyone know?

Damn. You guys seriously can't wait a few more months for the R1 version? I could send you one tomorrow. Sheesh.

bunkaroo 02-28-06 03:42 PM

With our luck, it'll be a Universal DVD-18.

Make sure you go slow when you unbunch your panties. :D

Anyway, I wasn't complaining as much as trying to sardonically comment on another possible hitch down the line.

I'll be buying this no matter what (assuming it's 16:9 and proper ratio).

Is the video any better on the LD version or this expected SE? ..I remember not being very impressed with the picture quality of this very dark movie.

You're going to compare the video quality of a laserdisc to DVD? I think I could say (without having seen this new transfer) that the new version will be light years better. Has a LD video transfer EVER been better than the DVD???

I thought somebody earlier said it may be a LD transfer to DVD.. either way, it'll be great if the video on the SE is cleaner.

i heard this transfer is absolutely abysmal, so i don't think we will get the same transfer.

Unless you've heard from more than the source in the international forum, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. And I don't remember him saying "abysmal."

CanDVDFan 04-03-06 12:56 PM

Transfer is fine, much much better than the non-anamorphic verison. The eventual North American release will probably be 100% the same as the Taiwan version. This disc was released by Universal with a new transfer. Not 100% but remember this movie was shot with Super 35 and is quite dark which usually means a grainy picture. This is the way the movie is shot. Get over it.

source, link? who are you talking to that way anyway? because you sound like a jerk, especially for a newbie.

Actually, there's absolutely NO reason to think that a different transfer would be used for R1 than R3.

I have a R2 Japan transfer that's anamorphic. I would have to agree about that transfer.

CanDVDfan...thanks for chiming in. I appreciate your comments even if others do not.

It seems everybody here is getting impatient waiting for a Region 1 Special Edition from Universal to happen. Add me to that long list.

GuruTwo 04-03-06 02:40 PM

Fincher's "Zodiac" comes out in September so I wouldn't be surprised if Universal was holding the R1 release back to cash in when that film is released theatrically.

jmj713 04-03-06 03:09 PM

I'm thinking the eventual R1 edition will have more extras.

digitalfreaknyc 04-03-06 03:12 PM

No it won't. These are all the extras from the Criterion laserdisc. They're not going to add anything to that.

nemein 04-03-06 05:56 PM

Mod note: CanDVDFan & scott1598 it's not really worth getting so worked up over a DVD. Phrases like "get over it" and calling people "jerks" aren't really necessary.

Unfortunately. I always loved the contrast of his commentaries from the Seven laserdisc and DVD. At the time of the laserdisc version he was prepping The Game and found it interesting to hear his comments looking back a couple of films later. I would've liked to hear his thoughts now, nine years since its release.

Aside from that, commentary on all extra material including the trailers is a great feature!
