Wong Kar-Wai's 2046 12.27.05

Finally getting a Region 1 release. Use those gift cards on this one people...It's in theaters now... Yah Yah...I know your region free, and already have it....same. Still worthwhile for everyone who missed it so far.

I look forward to finding out if this will be the same transfer as the Mei Ah disc, which has some annoying problems with the image bouncing every time there is a cut...

This was one of the first movies I watched yesterday on my new 57" Toshiba HDTV. It's a magnificent film.

The Mei-Ah release is region 0 actually... so you don't even have to be region free.

I bought it last November and saw it theatrically a few weeks ago. Not WKW's best film, but very good (my only complaint is that it was a little long -- dragged on a bit!)

Any word on the DVD features? I don't see myself double dipping because the Mei-Ah release is a beautiful package (postcards!), but you never know...

I was really hoping Criterion was going to get their hands on this one. (Their In The Mood For Love release is one of the favorite DVD's in my collection.)

Sony Clasics has been really hit-and-miss with their HK product. I'll wait till I read a review.

without some overwhelming extras, i see no reason to update my mei-ah release. it's nice to see a wkw film is getting a traditional r1 dvd release.

^ All of WKW's previous films are out in R1... As Tears Go By, Fallen Angels, Happy Together, Days of Being Wild from Kino, Ashes of Time from World Video (a truly atrocious release, mind you), Chungking Express from Mirimax, and In the Mood for Love from Criterion... I even think you can get his BMW movie right from BMW.

Eros is sure to get an R1 release, and with 2046 announced that covers everything, no? Just checked the IMDB actually, it looks like a couple shorts here and there are missing, but tha'ts no surprise...

WKW is doing a movie with Nicole Kidman apparently.... "The Lady from Shanghai" (don't think it has anything to do with the Welles film of the same title).

I really need to buy this film. $22 being the cheapest (DDD) is still a bit much though

I ordered mine from Amazon, which had it for a reasonable price, and they shipped it out early, even though I combined it with another title that doesn't come out for a few weeks. If you can find something worth about $6 you want, you can combine with 2046 and get a nice deal w/ free shipping from Amazon.
