Godzilla: Final Wars ------> 13th Dec. 2005

From DVDanswers:

Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has announced Godzilla: The Final Wars which will be arriving in shops from this December. This Ryuhei Kitamura directed project will arrive on the 13th December, priced at around $24.96. As well as an anamorphic widescreen presentation, and Japanese and English Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, the set will include English subtitles, a b-roll of special effects sequences, a teaser trailer for Final Wars and TV spots. We've attached our first look at the official artwork below:

I liked Kitamura's work in Versus and Azumi so it will be interesting to see how he managed to dust off the 50 y/o monster.

I take it you haven't read spoilers? Far too many humans, but when G's on the screen, he brings it.

I thought this movie rocked! Humans and all. Aside from all the fun callbacks to the G-movie friends and foes of yore, there's a couple of inspired action scenes involving the humans. Plus, you gotta love that cigar-chomping, samurai sword-wielding, American guy!!

Did this get a US theatrical release? I watched it at a film festival here in NZ

Very limited showings AFAIK. I saw it in the Chicago area over the summer at a Godzilla convention.

Nice to see the Japanese 5.1 soundtrack on this one also. Picking this one up.

I thought that this title might never get a domestic release. I'll definitely be putting this on my Christmas wish list. Cover art could be improved though, but, eh, whatcha gonna do?

With the cool extras (original Japanese audio/English subs, effects stuff, etc), I'll be happy to create my own cover and keep this DVD as is.

I saw this at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood this year. They sure did throw everything in it but the kitchen sink.

They showed it with English sub-titles and quite a few of the audience were kids. My 10 grandson hates it when I play mine with sub-titles, he wants dubbed in. Sez he can't read it fast enough.

It was okay, not as good as S.O.S. but I'm still getting it for my collection.

DeepDiscount and DVDPlanet don't have it listed yet.

I saw it at the Mann's Chinese when it premiered. It was also played with English subs and I thought my youngest son would hate it but he ate that movie up! I bought the Region 2 Special Edition (3 Discs) for the extras hoping the R1 would show up eventually.

I can't wait to see this one. Even with all the mixed reviews it looks like a lot of fun.

Just wondering if this release was delayed in Canada, as I have yet to see this in any store whatsoever since Dec 13.

Don't try too hard to find it. It's horrible. Not even worth the $9.00 I paid for it.

In the US, it is already out - put out as scheduled on the 13th. But it seemed to be limited and in limited numbers. Could not find it in the local Wal-Mart (although many DVDTalkers said they found it for under $10 in their Wal-Marts). Suncoast and Sam Goody only had ONE (!) copy out on their racks.

Ignore this guy, it's the best movie ever and was well worth the $80 I spent on the R2, and I'll be picking this one up too.

I don't know why, but most of Sony's Godzilla releases are very hard to find in Canada (and when you do find them, they are usually quite expensive). The only place I've seen FINAL WARS for sale in Canada so far was Best Buy. Odd, considering we are talking about a major studio release (although admittedly, the film itself isn't a big mainstream release)

It's weird, because it doesn't seem like it's listed at bestbuy.ca but it is listed on futureshop.ca, and when I do a store qty check it shows as some being present in my local fs. But when I go to the store they are nowhere to be found. Haven't seen it an HMV or any other B&M DVD retailer. I ended up buying a copy at a used DVD store for $8.99 Cdn. It had a hole drilled through the case and UPC code though. But the rest of the cover insert was fine, the inner ad/insert was present, and the disc itself was good. I switched the case anyway. I guess this was a good deal?

Sounds like you got a review copy.

That is odd. My local Futureshop doesn't have any (nor did they ever carry the previous Sony Godzilla releases), but the local Best Buy had a couple. The local HMV has some of the older titles, but not FINAL WARS.

Sounds like you got a great deal on a review copy.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Oh well, as long as the disc is final retail and not some watermarked copy I can live with the hole in the UPC I guess. Just finished watching some clips of Final Wars on ign, and can't wait to see it now. I'm a sucker for crazy ass Japanese junk food action films.

8.99 is a good deal (used or not and it was just released) - when it is retailing for $24.95 -- and if you are lucky to get it for close to $20 or at Wal-Mart for around $10 (from what others said).

Just got it in the mail tonight from DDD, and maaaaannnnn, was I let down. I'm a big G fan, but this movie was just WAAAYYYY too long, the plot was long and boring, and TOO MANY blatantly CGI shots. Gimme the monsters in rubber suits (although it was cool to see that crappy American Iguana in CGI get his just desserts).

That was a riot! I really liked this movie and the DVD release was very well done. I agree that the movie had more people/less Godzilla than I would have liked, but I was surprised at how much I liked the people part. Were all of the monsters really from previous Godzilla movies? I didn't recognize them all.

Yep, they all were except for Monster X,
Spoiler:
and his final form as Kaiser Ghidorah (which is obviously based on King Ghidorah, but looks different enough to practically be considered a different monster, although he's similar to Death Ghidorah from the 1996 Mothra film)
