^Isn't that online-only?

Gizmo 12-18-05 01:44 PM

No...I have the coupon right here in my hands. It says Serenity AND BG...but not at the same time.

mifuneral 12-19-05 11:42 AM

Thanks for the info! Assuming I find that coupon I will pick up 2.0 afterall. $23 for 10 episodes is not bad at all, and I doubt any hypothetical repackaged "full set" will offer a better price.

Josh-da-man 12-19-05 03:46 PM

I'm sort of nervous about getting the 2.0 set in case Universal decides to do something chickenshit like releasing a complete season two instead of the last half of the second season.

Honestly, I think even they realize that would be PR suicide. If this thread has shown us anything, it is that consumers are split on this half season idea anyway. Flipping the bird to those of us that do get on the wagon and pick this up by not releasing 2.5 or whatever would be an even dumber move.

Is that correct?

I thought you had to buy them together. I don't have the coupon in front of me so I may be wrong.

But seeing as it is a barcode coupon, I doubt most retailers would be configured to have it check for both before it takes $10 off.

We'll either see season 2.5, or 2.5 and a full season 2, but I'm almost positive we're NOT going to see them just release a full season 2 set. What would the point of that be?

das Monkey 12-19-05 07:08 PM

My guess would be a bare-bones 2.5 (or whatever you want to call it) and a full season set with more special features. While I gave the set a deservedly positive review, I really don't see why many people would buy it who have already seen the episodes. It will serve the purpose of allowing newcomers to get caught up, but I'd be pretty surprised if a better full season release didn't show up a year from now. If not, this one will just be cheaper and sold in combo deals with 2.5 at that time. Either way, waiting seems the more prudent decision IMO. Had I not reviewed it, I would not be picking it up, at least not this weekend.

What's extended Pegasus? Is it just longer?

It was mentioned earlier in this thread.

mifuneral 12-19-05 10:28 PM

I'm still getting it, especially considering this deal, even if I have to miss out on extras later down the line. For one thing, I don't have sci fi channel so I haven't seen these episodes. For another...extras rarely mean a whole lot to me. They are definitely nice, but I rarely rewatch extras anyway.

milo bloom 12-19-05 10:31 PM

Is anyone else having second thoughts what with a couple of the podcast commentaries missing in addition to the missing Pegasus? I'm fairly certain the extended Pegasus will definitely be on the next set.

I probably won't pick this up till Wed (with Serenity), but I'm starting to wonder about that "full season 2" that so many of the folks here are worried about. Anyone else?

ds6161 12-19-05 11:27 PM

yea I'm skipping this one... & its not so long ago that the 1st half of S2 aired.....

It's sort of how they released the first season.

The miniseries came out first, at $27.9x.

Then they released a complete season one boxed set at $59.9x with the miniseries included.

Presumably, the point would be to release a half a season and have the hardcore fans buy it. Then release the full season "complete" to justify a higher price than the second half would have commanded alone.

Or, like the monkey said, they'll release a bare-bones "2.5" set, and then a complete season set. Or a set with some new bells and whistles, and few missing from the previous releases.

I don't trust Universal with this series.

Joshua 12-20-05 01:37 AM

Wait...so is this $10 coupon a Best Buy exclusive? Or will all B&M retailers have dvd's with this coupon attached?

mifuneral 12-20-05 01:57 AM

I don't think the miniseries fiasco has much of a bearing here. First of all, there IS a boxset of s1 without the mini, if people wanted to go that route. Second, miniseries aren't generally seen as part of the series proper and as such are treated differently.

NOT a Best Buy exclusive - pretty sure most stores will have it. So far I know Target and FYE do, as I've checked with people I know who work at both.

According to what is stated on the coupon, you have to buy a combination of Serenity and BG Season 2.0, or Serenity and BG Season 1, and you will get an addtional $10 off, total.

Joshua 12-20-05 04:08 AM

Thanks for the info Rocketdog.....

I'm planning on buying both at Fry's tomorrow. I hope that they'll have coupons attached there.

Altimus Prime 12-20-05 09:32 AM

I have no interest in Serenity, so the coupon is a non-issue for me.

Just checked a couple of my local Walmarts. Their prices are at $40 and $39. Looks like at $32.99, Best Buy actually is the best buy. Wow.

AGuyNamedMike 12-20-05 09:53 AM

I will be paying tribute to the BB demons tonight for the BSG/Serenity deal. Sometimes you just can't fight convenience and price, even when you have to deal with the "May I help you find something, even though I have no clue where it is, what it is, or how much it is? And can I interest you in our extended warranty?"

It's also my understanding that some of the extras from the miniseries were not carried over to the S1 boxset. Is that correct?

That's correct. There are about 15 minutes of deleted scenes and a 40+ minute documentary that are on the miniseries DVD, but not included in the Season 1 box.

Honestly, I have no clue what to do about this release. I DO NOT trust Universal not to do something painfully stupid when it comes time to put out the 2nd half of season 2.

Altimus Prime 12-20-05 10:49 AM

The other thing about the miniseries release and season 1 is there was a substantial gap between the release of the miniseries and the first season. And IIRC, when the miniseries came out, did we even know at that point there was going to be a regular series produced?

I'm motivated to buy this. At BB's release week price, it is about $10 less than what I paid for season 1, which only had 3 more episodes.

I think I have to wait too. I've missed about 3 of these episodes and really want this but . . .

The $7 Serenity will cost you with the coupon will be a bargain. Trust me. If you like BSG enough to buy this box for $33, it's hard to imagine you not getting $7 worth of enjoyment out of Serenity.

If I'm wrong, I'll buy it from you for $7. It's a gift worth giving.
