Yeah but it's not like this would make sense as far as having the consumer purchase it. It doesn't really save them anything.

Amazon says the MSRP of the first box is $69.98. So they could just be dropping the bonus disc to drop the price.

huh...hope something is diffrent...alternate commentary or spruced up something...

list on the old set is 69.99, so the price drop could be true....so if you want that bonus disc you better rush out and buy one.

Q: Why?

A: Because there are plenty of Star Wars geeks that will double-dip based solely on a new box.

Any other questions?

It doesn't take long for DVDs that are common as dirt to get rare... and then people who have had them for years are left scratching their heads.

A few years back, The Little Mermaid was so common that Disney was literally giving it away with the purchase of Snow White. People were trying to resell their 'free' copies on eBay and getting very little interest. The Toy Story Toybox set was announced months in advance as going out-of-print. They ran commercials in prime time telling everyone "Buy it now before it's gone!". The price still doubled about 6 months later.

Personally, I think this is the exact reason that Lucas/Disney/etc. pull these things off the market for a bit. No matter how many millions you sell and how 'flooded' the market appears, as soon as it disappears from Wal-Mart shelves, everyone goes batshit because they forgot to buy a copy for themselves/their kids/their grandkids/whatever. It's brilliant.

Look for that bonus disc to be fetching $50 on eBay before the calendar hits 2007...

I seems to me that this is just a rerelease of the previous set at a cheaper price without the bonus disc... The only reason there changing the cover art is for gollible fans and the die hards.

This is absolutely ridiculous!

They're releasing a new version for no reason except to try and trick people into buying a "new" version?

from dvdanswers.com

"Each film will carry a THX enhanced English Dolby Digital 5.1 EX track, along with an audio commentary for each film, and easterggs."

Are there eastereggs in individual discs of old set?

I thought it was for the layer change freeze. I called the 800 number just for the hell of it and got a replacement. It came a week later in a case with a cover. It looked exactly like the disc that came with the set. I scanned through it and didn't notice any changes. I haven't checked the ID on the disc, though.

Know something we don't? Or are you just toying with our already ravaged and abused emotions?

My guess is this is only one annoncement of several for this date. We'll probably see

-SE Original Trilogy box set
-Prequel Trilogy box set
-Mega 6 film box set

-and probably some other mega-marketing package, all just in time for the Holiday season.

Are you sure it's new art? I've seen that artwork many times before.

I am holding off on any re-release of Star wars, until I get all 6 movies together in a Box.

Pretty pointless release.

But I'm not going to go apeshit over it like some. I simply don't care as I'm not being forced to buy it.

Shame on Lucas for trying to make money by providing entertainment for people! Shame!

If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you already have it, then don't buy it. If you don't have it and like Star Wars, then this is the set for you!

Unless they have changed something I'll keep my current set.

i'm not so sure that a new trilogy box or 6 movie box will come....it would make sense to release those same day as episode 3. This set comes out same day as clone wars, seems like that gives them a good month of cross promotion on three serperate releases
