Of coarse! they are widescreen, in OAR (Original Aspect Ratio.) With an exception of 1.85:1, 1.78:1 ratio, and 1.66:1, which fill the entire widescreen anamorphically, unless you just prefer the full screen editions, not relevant on superbit titles.

Since Superbit is not a standard, obviously the answer is no. The next standard for home video will be a format that supports HD.

Personally, I have problems with the idea that a studio would deliberately sell a transfer that's less than the best possible, with the intention of doing a better transfer as a double-dip. It's bad enough when they double-dip by adding features or other content to a re-release, but selling an intentionally degraded transfer of the movie itself is just sleazy.

My preference is for simultaneous releases of a bare-bones and a deluxe edition, such as "Master and Commander," with both versions including the same high-quality transfer.

I AM SOOOO with you on that. I could give a crap about what the keygrip did during any scenes. I almost never even watch the credits so anything beyond that is completely unnecessary for me. Comedy bloopers are the only thing that might be worth watching.

If the extras in anyway increase the price of a DVD - I'll get the vanilla as long as the vanilla has THE best AV quality.

Same here....Some extras are good, but most arent....plus, you normally only watch the extras once if ever.

Extras are just that. Extra.

I want the picture and sound to be as good as possible. That will give the dvd longer life IMO.

I'm also fussy about buying DVDs with high quality audio/visuals. That being said, I don't have a single "Superbit" title. It seems a bit of rip for one studio to just release a 1-disk version of a movie on "Superbit", while other studios don't use a catchy name for their transfer and will include disks with extras. I guess I'm greedy -- I want a high-quality transfer plus extras.

I am a "it's all about the film" kinda person. I do like commentaries from time to time but not always, not even most of the time. The great majority of other "extra features" on most disks are just junk stuffed in a drawer to me.

That being said, I have never bought a superbit cuz I refuse to re-buy things. I go for a good version and "just live with it" if they come up with a "by the way, we did it right this time" edition.

Will I re-buy when blue-ray disks come out?.... hummmmm.... I don't think so. They would have to be mind-ef'ingly better than my current version.

I agree there are alot of them out there, but there seem to be scads of us in the other category these days and more popping up daily- big screen owners who have decided to throw some money at our hardware in order to get more enjoyment out of the movies that we love. Nowadays I can realistically wait for maybe 85-90 percent of the movies I used to want to catch at the theatres to be released on DVD, because I know I'll get a great experience watching them at home as well- and other than epic type pictures that SCREAM to be seen on a huge screen, I'll watch a movie like Flightplan when it's released on disc. Because most of my movie watching is done at HOME, I want to have a super print of the movies I like. Watching a movie on a 20 inch screen you can get away with buying just about any old DVD and be content.....blow that up times 3 or 4 and you're wishing you had bought the superbit disc rather than the one with commentaries by the set designer.....

Wow im glad for all the input!!

Im for the best quality period, although if i had to choose id go with the extras if i couldnt tell the difference between qualities. But basically im just confused and upset at dvds coming out and then special editions coming out a bit later only to be followed by super extra limited editions, and so forth, i just want the best quality AND feautures is that so hard to ask?? And as for HDTV, you are telling me that there will be another DVD format just for this?!?! so buying the matrix movies and then the Ultimate editions, now i have to buy the ultimate HDTV edition?!!? dvd is pissing me off, i should just download and burn!!

They, and HD players are not out yet.

Did search for the HD-DVD and Blu Ray threads here to get caught up to speed if interested.
