Welcome to the Second Edition of the DVDTalk Draft Game. As the reigning champion, I thought I would run this Second Edition as Groucho (the originator) plans on running a TVTalk draft. I enjoy this game too much to sit on the sidelines… so I will be participating as well.

There will be a TBA DVD prize for the winner this time around - supplied by UpcomingDiscs.com

The idea behind the game is that all the players “Draft” a 10 DVD collection and then square off to see who has the best “virtual collection”. By draft, I mean selecting one DVD at a time to add to your collection in turn.

The rules are very similar as last time around:

1. Everybody takes turns “drafting” DVDs round-robin style. Once a DVD has been drafted, nobody else can select it.

2. Drafting will occur on a first come, first served basis. The first round will run from today (Friday, Sept. 23rd) to end of day Monday, Sept. 26th. This wide timeframe will hopefully allow a good number of participants to sign up. Following rounds (2-10) will start each day at 11am EST (excluding weekends). The DVDTalk server clock will be the official timekeeper, so watch your timestamps! Any picks made outside the official time will be ignored. You'll need to repost them within the correct time frame.

NOTE: ONLY SIGN UP IF YOU PLAN TO COMPETE FOR THE FULL TWO WEEKS THIS DRAFT WILL RUN!

3. Once everybody has drafted 10 DVDs, we’ll have a bracket tournament. You’ll be randomly paired up, and the forum will vote on who has the better “collection” of DVDs from the draft.

4. Restrictions:

a. No Porn
b. Only one movie box set per player
c. Only one television season set per player (mini-series count as a TV selection)
d. Max. of 2 criterion titles per collection
e. R1 releases only
f. No "preorders"...a disc must be released before you can draft it.
g. No individual movies that are only available within box sets
h. No "gift set" releases if the DVD contained within such set is available individually.

5. The bracket tourney will continue until we have a grand champion.

6. The field is limited to 16 or 32 players (depending on interest levels).

7. If you miss two rounds in a row, I will replace you with an alternate. Alternates will enter the game in a "first come, first serve" fashion when this occurs, and will "inherit" the existing collection.

One question about drafting. In subsequent rounds, is there any order to picks, or is it first come, first served in all rounds?

We tried the 1-32, 32-1 method last draft and it took FOREVER. So we use first come first served to keep the draft to a 2-week period.

See rule #2...first come, first serve.

(When I did the first draft, I tried to order the picks but that turned into a huge fiasco).
