Wow! I can only hope that all of the things that are speculation in that article come to fruition.

I second that, Buddy (except for the word "aticipated"...just kidding!). I've been waiting for Donner's SUPERMAN II since 1980. I never thought I would live to see the day.

Mountain Biker 01-27-06 02:56 PM

Can't wait!

I can't imagine ANYONE above the age of 4 enjoying SUPERMAN IV, but like you, I'm going to pick it up regardless.

I would love to see the infamous test screening cut of the film with Unclear Man V.1.

riley_dude 01-27-06 05:28 PM

Good article but I cant see why anyone would want to see 3 or 4 again.

this is correct...have info from one of the producers of the set...will not be released until holiday 2006 to coincide with the dvd release of superman returns....my friend told me that they are planning for a 10 disc box set with 2disc special editions of the first four films (could get wittled down to 8 discs if they only do 2 discs for the first two movies)...said it was going to include various superman serials as well as some supes cartoons....

It would make for a good MST3K session.

Wonder if they will finally include the TV specials about the making of 1-3.

LivingINClip 01-28-06 02:52 AM

I have a feeling they'll just spruce something up a tad and re-release. I doubt I double dip.

Agreed. From all the information provided, I haven't seen anything that would put me over the edge to buy this one again. ;)

Geofferson 01-28-06 04:09 PM

Excellent news!!!!

LorenzoL 01-29-06 07:50 PM

Excellent news!

Hopefully WB can give us a boxset just like they did with the Batman films.

I too would like to see such a cut.

And  for a Donner cut of Superman II. I'd get Superman III for the drunken Superman scene alone.

Skoobooz 01-30-06 07:24 PM

IGN's DVD section has an interview with Richard Donner about the new Superman II cut. He basically confirms that it will indeed be a new cut of the film, but he's not directly involved (though he gives it his blessing):

"He was only a boy! But he will never become a man."

bring on the new Superman II cut.

Well, since this will probably be the very last chance for Donner to get his shot at SUPERMAN II again, I'm disappointed that he won't be DIRECTLY involved, but I count my blessings that we get to see anything at all when it comes to his footage.

By the way, IGN, it's Christopher Reeve, not Reeves. Drop the "s".

And I'm pretty sure "Thau" is not spelled "Thaw".

Warner's classic release slate also includes...a lavish 14-disc “Superman” set that features the famed “Richard Donner” cut of Superman II, up to 40% longer than the theatrical version. Donner was fired 70% into the shoot, and much of what he filmed has been locked away in the vaults. Newly restored footage includes an alternate opening in which Lois Lane suspects Clark Kent is the Man of Steel and then almost dies trying to prove it.

14-disc??!!??? Wow!

This has to contain something more than just the 4 movies.

Geofferson 01-31-06 07:59 AM

Yeah, no kidding. That is one mega-set!
