In order to make this fair, I took a second glance. Sorry, but I still think your DVD's are still weak or unpopular titles (for the most part). I have to ask myself which group I'd want to add to my collection and your's just don't interest me. 10 movies I'd love to watch any day of the week are far more valuable to me than 10 movies I could sell for big bucks. Plus you're up against some awesome titles.

Unless you have a baby for me to kiss, move along...

Not sure if this was a result of my little write up, but I think Mrs. Nesbit changed his vote to me.
Mrs. Nesbit!

My votes
This Round’s Match-Ups
1. Drexl vs. IDrinkMolson
I'm a huge fan of The Decalogue.
2. jfrost vs. reefa
gosh, this is hard... the Cassavettes box tipped the scales for me.
3. Sweet Baby James vs. Franchot
argg! it was hard not to pick the one with a woody allen box in it, but if i had no dvds, and i had to pick one of these lists to start my collection, it would be the one with Donnie Darko and The Third Man in it.
4. exharrison vs. DJ Longfellow
I can see this game only getting harder and harder as time goes by.... but I had to Pick Freaks & Geeks over Undeclared, and Evil Dead over Army of Darkness.
5. Rockmjd23 vs. Mhepburn20
Antoine Doinel and Monty Python in the same set? nice.
6. videophile vs. ryuryu2949
pretty even imo, Eternal Sunshine decided it for me.
7. Joe Molotov vs. Mrs. Nesbit
great list.
8. RyoHazuki vs. Damfino
Eraserhead.

DVD Talk Legend
My fellow DvD talkers,
Upon looking at my race in round one I have noticed that I am currently trailing by one vote. Understandably I am a bit concerned. When I first looked over my opponent's "Collection" I was confused. "I've never even heard of most of these movies," I thought. Then I realized why my race was so close. CONFUSION. The rest of you were as confused as I was when you looked at these titles and in your state of confusion you must have selected the wrong collection.
Now I know what you must be thinking. Mrs. Nesbit we should recount all the votes and make sure the people understand what's at stake. Nonsense! The people that have picked my opponent, as confused as they may be, have made their choice. But I do want to make sure that all future voters understand their choice. So what I've done is use my resources at Netflix to find some reviews of my opponent's choices to give you, the voter, the information necessary to make your decision.
First up Lawrence of Arabia: Superbit. I myself do not enjoy foreign films but to each their own. Let's see what reviewer pinkfiregoddess has to say,
"Lawrence of Arabia is a movie where you fidget a lot in your chair and continually check your watch. I especially felt the length in the desert scene where they were riding the horses. This scene had no underscoring (no music in the background), no dialogue, and no action. Just a ten minute scene of incredible boredom. Finally, sometimes I think that movies receive the title of "classic" arbitrarily, as in when they've been around a long time, have won at least some kind of award, and are more boring than anyone will ever want to watch. Mark Twain did say on classic books that they are the ones everyone talks about, but never reads."
Mark Twain, American icon, hated Lawrence of Arabia? Wow I'm staying away from that flix!
Next up we have Once Upon a Time in the West. Usually I'm up for a good western shoot 'em up but I had second thoughts after reading what esteemed netflix member richard10021 wrote about the film,
"Very much like watching paint dry. Loads of people gave this 5 stars but, sorry, simply great cinematography is not enough."
If watching paint dry is your cup of tea by all means vote for Joe. If you enjoy DvD Talk classics like Good Burger than you understand that a vote for Mrs.Nesbit is a vote for quality.
Next up is Seven Samurai. I believe beau jenks says it all,
"keystone cops meet the village idiots. i ordered this movie because of these good reviews. you have got to be kidding me! i fell asleep 3 X's in the 3 1/2 hour debacle. i couldn't tell if the feeble attempts were at humor or drama, just a waste of time. nothing to see here, move along!"
And move along we will right to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Finally a picture I've seen and to be honest it isn't my thing but if it's yours more power to you.
Matrix is up next. A decent film, until, that is, about halfway through when you start remembering the endless raves, headache inducing speeches, and stupidity that the series turns into. For those of you that haven't seen it let's let Elizabeth Delgado weigh in with her two cents,
"I like Sci-Fi but am not a Terminator fan. I hated it and didn't even finish watching it. I think you have to like movies like the Terminator to like this movie."
Makes no sense does it? Neither do the sequels to this film which you'll eventually watch if you buy the Matrix.
Twin Peaks Season 1. Never seen it myself as I can't stand midgets so I had to turn to my good friend kevin mccall,
“What was this show? This has to be worse than U-Turn (yikes!).I have heard in the past others rave about Twin Peaks, so I was thrilled to finally sit down and watch it, what a let down. They don't even give you the set up, just jump right into this mystery. The acting was horrible and plot dumb. I don't see what all the fuss was about. I gave it a honest try (watched both episodes on the first disk) but i am just not feeling it.”
Worse than U-Turn?!? Yowsah!
Gandhi was my opponent’s next choice and honestly has there ever been a more well put together bio-pic about a kind, caring, peace loving man? I often think of myself as somewhat like Gandhi. Unlike my opponent Joe who obviously has nothing but hatred in his heart which is obvious by his next selection:
The Shining. GD from Lansing, MI wrote, "This movie was nothing but a joke. I'm amazed to see such high ratings for this (eve on IMDB!) Scare factor? May be about 75 seconds total in the whole movie. All I saw was Jack Nicholson making a fool out of himself screaming like a idiot," screaming is what you might be doing come tomorrow morning at 9AM PST if you realize my collection is no longer in this competition.
Apocalypse Now, or as SrinivasMurthy Prabhala and I call it "Not worth watching"!
Lastly we have A Christmas Story. Honestly folks, isn't 7,852 times on TBS a year enough?
So there you have it. Now that you have a fair look at my opponent's "Collection" I leave it up to you to make the right decision. I know you will.
