Wow. This would be enough to chage my vote to Joe if I didn't already vote for him. Have you every seen Seven Samurai? One to the top five films ever in my book.

Too bad you couldn't give any reasons to vote for your collection.

"I've never even heard of most of these movies," I thought. Then I realized why my race was so close. CONFUSION. The rest of you were as confused as I was when you looked at these titles and in your state of confusion you must have selected the wrong collection.

Now I know what you must be thinking. Mrs. Nesbit we should recount all the votes and make sure the people understand what's at stake. Nonsense! The people that have picked my opponent, as confused as they may be, have made their choice. But I do want to make sure that all future voters understand their choice. So what I've done is use my resources at Netflix to find some reviews of my opponent's choices to give you, the voter, the information necessary to make your decision.

First up Lawrence of Arabia: Superbit. I myself do not enjoy foreign films but to each their own. Let's see what reviewer pinkfiregoddess has to say,

"Lawrence of Arabia is a movie where you fidget a lot in your chair and continually check your watch. I especially felt the length in the desert scene where they were riding the horses. This scene had no underscoring (no music in the background), no dialogue, and no action. Just a ten minute scene of incredible boredom. Finally, sometimes I think that movies receive the title of "classic" arbitrarily, as in when they've been around a long time, have won at least some kind of award, and are more boring than anyone will ever want to watch. Mark Twain did say on classic books that they are the ones everyone talks about, but never reads."

Mark Twain, American icon, hated Lawrence of Arabia? Wow I'm staying away from that flix!

Next up we have Once Upon a Time in the West. Usually I'm up for a good western shoot 'em up but I had second thoughts after reading what esteemed netflix member richard10021 wrote about the film,

"Very much like watching paint dry. Loads of people gave this 5 stars but, sorry, simply great cinematography is not enough."

If watching paint dry is your cup of tea by all means vote for Joe. If you enjoy DvD Talk classics like Good Burger than you understand that a vote for Mrs.Nesbit is a vote for quality.

Next up is Seven Samurai. I believe beau jenks says it all,
"keystone cops meet the village idiots. i ordered this movie because of these good reviews. you have got to be kidding me! i fell asleep 3 X's in the 3 1/2 hour debacle. i couldn't tell if the feeble attempts were at humor or drama, just a waste of time. nothing to see here, move along!"

And move along we will right to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Finally a picture I've seen and to be honest it isn't my thing but if it's yours more power to you.

Matrix is up next. A decent film, until, that is, about halfway through when you start remembering the endless raves, headache inducing speeches, and stupidity that the series turns into. For those of you that haven't seen it let's let Elizabeth Delgado weigh in with her two cents,
"I like Sci-Fi but am not a Terminator fan. I hated it and didn't even finish watching it. I think you have to like movies like the Terminator to like this movie."

Makes no sense does it? Neither do the sequels to this film which you'll eventually watch if you buy the Matrix.

Twin Peaks Season 1. Never seen it myself as I can't stand midgets so I had to turn to my good friend kevin mccall,
“What was this show? This has to be worse than U-Turn (yikes!).I have heard in the past others rave about Twin Peaks, so I was thrilled to finally sit down and watch it, what a let down. They don't even give you the set up, just jump right into this mystery. The acting was horrible and plot dumb. I don't see what all the fuss was about. I gave it a honest try (watched both episodes on the first disk) but i am just not feeling it.”

Worse than U-Turn?!? Yowsah!

Gandhi was my opponent’s next choice and honestly has there ever been a more well put together bio-pic about a kind, caring, peace loving man? I often think of myself as somewhat like Gandhi. Unlike my opponent Joe who obviously has nothing but hatred in his heart which is obvious by his next selection:

The Shining. GD from Lansing, MI wrote, "This movie was nothing but a joke. I'm amazed to see such high ratings for this (eve on IMDB!) Scare factor? May be about 75 seconds total in the whole movie. All I saw was Jack Nicholson making a fool out of himself screaming like a idiot," screaming is what you might be doing come tomorrow morning at 9AM PST if you realize my collection is no longer in this competition.

Apocalypse Now, or as SrinivasMurthy Prabhala and I call it "Not worth watching"!

Lastly we have A Christmas Story. Honestly folks, isn't 7,852 times on TBS a year enough?

So there you have it. Now that you have a fair look at my opponent's "Collection" I leave it up to you to make the right decision. I know you will.
Good job. You just lost the midget vote.

I was going to let my collection stand as it is, and leave it to the great voters of this forum to make the right decision. But since the honor and sanctity of the films in my collection have been called into question by my respected opponent, I felt I should say a few words about it.

Although I shouldn't have to tell you that most of the movies in my collection are critically acclaimed masterpieces of the cinematic art, I will point out that of the 9 movies, 8 are on the IMDB Top 250, and several on the AFI Top 100 as well. But I didn't pick these movies because they made any critics lists. I picked them because I liked them. I didn't "appeciate" them as one sometimes has to do with older films, where although you recognize the craftsmanship involved, you also secretly found it be rather boring and would probably not want to watch it again. No, these are all films that I honestly enjoyed watching, and have watched a number of times each.

But there are alot of movies that I enjoy. I enjoy X-Men 2, but if I can only pick 10 movies, I certainly wouldn't pick that one. First of all, I tried to pick movies from a wide range of genres. We have Adventure, Sci-Fi/Action, Western, Samurai, Musical Comedy, Biopic, Horror, Family Comedy, and one Television Drama. Of those movies, I tried to pick the movies that represented the if not the very best, at least close to the best of each of these genres, and I feel very satisfied with my choices. Lawrence of Arabia is the best Adventure Epic ever. Once Upon a Time in the West is the best Western, spaghetti or otherwise, ever. Seven Samurai is not only one of the best samurai movies ever, but also one of the best Japanese movies ever. Rocky Horror Picture Show may not be the best musical ever (or it may be), but it's at least one of the funniest. The Matrix is not the best Sci-Fi movie ever, but it was certainly a milestone for the genre. Twin Peaks is one of the greatest TV dramas ever, and a forerunner for shows like X-Files and Lost. Gandhi is my favorite Biopic, and is just a great movie about an great man. Although most people will tell you that Apocalypse Now is not really a war movie, it is probably the best movie that involves war. This long strange trip is one that's definately worth taking. And then we have A Christmas Story, which is on the air 7,852 times a year for one reason. It's Just. That. Good. This nostalgic look at being a kid, and more importantly, being a kid at Christmas time is great for kids of all ages. It's "The Chistmas Carol" of this century.

But this is all IMO of course, so if you wish to vote my opponent into the next round, I harbor no ill will towards anyone. I feel my opponent offers viable alternative to anyone who would rather vote for Good Burger over Lawrence of Arabia and Apocalypse Now. And did I mention Seven Samurai, Twin Peaks, and Gandhi? How about The Matrix? I wasn't sure if I mentioned those or not.

Seriously, Good Burger. What are you people voting on?

Don't let my opponent fool you with his well written paragraphs, talk of exclusive film societies, and bold movie titles. My movie titles don't need bold. They don't need italics either. They stand on their own.

My opponent speaks of having a wide variety of film genres in his collection. My movies only come in two genres: Amazing and Excellent!

A vote against a collection with Good Burger in it is a vote against DvD Talk!

I nearly voted for your collection and then I saw Good Burger.

Not funny.

some very tough calls. i tried to compare the individual movies/boxes on a strength rating of 1 - 10 (of course subjective to my own likes. .) then i came up with a numerical score for each. for the films i haven't seen (i know, i should have seen them all!) i depended on the dvdtalk or internet review of the film to come up with its rating. good luck to all the contestants and congrats to all the winners. groucho, i would really like to have seen your picks but i guess to remain impartial you couldn't paticipate.

All joking aside Joe. Great collection! When I looked over the listing of collections a few days ago yours was one of the few I really didn't want to get paired with as all of your films are classics. It was really tough to put together those reviews from Netflix yesterday because hardly anyone had anything bad to say about most of your selections. Mine is more of a "Geek" list for a lack of a better term but they are some of my favorite films.

Thank you very much for your compliment. And thanks to all the other voters who took time out to vote for my collection.

- Groucho, when does this round end? And when does the next round begin?

- Mrs. Nesbitt, I realize you were joking with that critique of your opponents collection, but for goodness sake, you have wayyyy too much time on your hands to search the internet for those negative reviews. (by the way, i voted for you on the strength of Mallrats, Toy Box, and Casino over Joe's weaknesses, including Ghandi, Rocky Horror [not a fan], Twin Peaks, and the Shining. But his picks of Seven Samurai, Apocolypse Now, LoA were awesome).

1.Drexl love decalogue and Amelie. I haven't seen your last two, but now am curious.

2.Reefa Everyone keeps talking about this one being so tough and it is, but Cassavettes tipped this one just a bit in reefa's favor.

3.Franchot I really liked your list Sweet Baby James and could see you winning against almost any other player. Sorry.

4.exharrison Princess Bride, Undeclared, Pulp Fiction. Very well chosen list to encompass multiple genres

5.Mhepburn20 Yes, I'm voting for myself.

6.videophile Manos is one of he all time greats.

7.Joe Molotov I know how close this one has been but for me Mrs. Nesbit's collection just wasn't my cup of tea compared to Joe's. Maybe it's because I like foreign films.

8. Damnfino City of God and I, Claudius tipped this one although going against Band of Brothers, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly was difficult.

Under 30 minutes to go and Joe Molotov and Mrs. Nesbit are still tied! Will Groucho have to break the tie?
