ALIEN re-release?!

I couldn't find any info on this here (search for Alien and a million god-damned unrelated threads come up), so here goes. I stumbled across this on Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s=dvd&n=507846

The release date is September 6th. It seems this is a re-release of the older Alien Legacy version of Alien, but the cover says 20th anniversary. So what the hell is this? Will it replace the earlier 2-disc SE, taken from the Quadrilogy? I hope not, as I haven't gotten around to getting that yet.

I think this is just a price drop on the previous release. Some online stores will list price drops with the upcoming releases.

I thought the version in the Quadrilogy replaced the 20th Anniversary one, but I still see the latter in stores. I wish this was a price drop on the Quadrilogy version as I haven't gotten around to getting it either.

this is just a re-release of the original disc. Its an easy way to sell through a cheaper product to the general consumer who doesn't want all the extras. It also has a isolated music score...

I honestly don't think there is any way to improve upon the Quadrilogy (maybe the packaging) so I don't see an improved rerelease of any of the movies.

Not only has it got an isolated score, it has two of them. Plus Ridley Scott's original commentary.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll pick this up, to complete my Alien collection.

By the way, when giving links to Amazon, it's unnecessary to copy the whole thing in your address bar. I see this done all the time on forums. It's very simple to edit out the junk, to make the link look a lot more presentable. Thus, this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s=dvd&n=507846), becomes this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000ILDD/).

You take out the "tg/detail/-" string and replace it with "ASIN", and delete everything after the ASIN number. And then you can add the "dvdtalk" thing, if you like.

I totally agree....this is one of my favorite sets because of the movies themselves and the package.

I don't think so. But at my local Best Buy, only the first 2 are 2-discs. The other 2 have been replaced by the old single disc from the first Legacy set. But you can still find these online at many places. My local Circuit City still has a few 2-discs of 3 and 4.

No prob! For me, these make the Legacy version worth having, in addition to the Quad SE (for more extras and better video, right?). One of my favorite movies, so what the hell. Anyway, isn't strange that, considering the Quadrilogy AND the individual Quad SE, that they would re-release this?

I bought the Region 2 release of the Legacy version cheaply last year, just to have the solo Scott commentary, and it has the following isolated music tracks:
Original film score
alternate music and production sound

So this is the same as the Region 1 release (the "Legacy" version)?

100% identical.
