Was just wondering if this is anamorphic or not, and if it is, how is the quality of the video transfer?

It definitely is anamorphic. I seem to remember the picture quality being pretty good and much better than I expected. It's been almost a year since I watched the DVD, so hopefully someone who has seen it more recently can give you a second opinion.
