Any News on WAR OF THE WORLDS Yet?

Is there anything announced yet?

Will it be the typical Spielbegr-SE? Will they pull a Titanic and screw it over?

Will it have a DTS-ES track? I must hear the Tripod Horn in DTS.

According to The Rumor Mill at The Digital Bits, the street date is November 22 (which might be tentative; DreamWorks first announced November 15). No specs are known as yet. Totally looking forward to it. Loved the film.

Most Spielberg titles get DTS. I'm thinking they'll put it on this release. I believe he's a co-founder of the format.

It should be announced soon. Most likely a single-disc and double-disc special edition with DTS.

But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the recent post-Hurricane misery delays it.

Hope Dreamworks give us the full works on it's DVD release instead of a bare-bones
and later an extended or SE version in order to make us double dippers.

Isn't DreamWorks usually good at providing the fully-featured edition right off?

It's a Paramount movie (shudders).

Unless DreamWorks is handling the DVD (like the WB handled The Aviator on DVD when it was a Miramax film).

I'm usually happy with Paramount releases. Their audio/video is usually solid. I don't much for features because I buy the dvd to watch the movie. However, they don't support DTS that often, so I still hope it's included on this title.

Can't wait to grab this movie when it comes out. November can't get here soon enough. I also hope there's a DTS track, but won't boycott if there's not.

Paramount did put the Jack Ryan Trilogy out with DTS, so there is a chance we'll get DTS on WOTW, especially with Spielberg's association with it.

considering they're doing DTS for Titanic with Fox, i don't see why they wouldn't do DTS with Spielberg and Dreamworks for this. if Spielberg demands it, so it shall be.

I remember reading an article with Tom Cruise about a videographer that was always on the set filming different tings for the DVD, and how the final cut was about 20 minutes shorter than the original cut of the film... Just some tidbits on what could be on the DVD. And isn't Dreamworks handling the DVD?

So, does that mean there IS a DTS track?

And since it's Speilberg, shouldn't it be 5.1 EX and DTS-ES?

from DVD Answers:

DreamWorks has today released some early details on a single-disc and double-disc limited edition of War of the Worlds which stars Tom Cruise. This new Steven Spielberg directed movie, will be available to own from the 22nd November this year. The single-disc will retail at around $29.99 - the retail price for the two-disc edition is currently unavailable. Both releases will feature a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, along with both English Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround tracks. I'm afraid we have no word on extra material for this one yet, but we'll bring you further details very shortly. Stay tuned for that!
