I was about to say, "good thing I never got around to picking up the first release." However, at that MSRP...I'll just hope for a price-drop on the initial release.

Will they at least change the distractingly ugly yellow subtitles to an appropriate black/white for this release?
But, yeah, this release is pure balls - though it looks like they're trying to make this some sort of gift-set for Christmas. It's too expensive to buy for myself, especially since I have the Italian Medusa dvd and the original Koch, but I wouldn't mind if someone bought this for me as a Christmas gift.

Well I never got the first release, but damn this MSRP is high. Who knows, if I have some extra loot, I may pick this up (or is there's a price drop).

This actually does look very good to me and am willing to shell out the price they are asking however....I have to strongly echo what Slop101 points out above ( plus the minor digital issue the disc has). Other than that I don't have a problem with the price. If the first disc has the Medusa transfer sans the yellow subs...I am sold!

So basically they are adding $40 to the MSRP for the booklet, 5 photos and a smallish poster, and that 3rd disc? As much as I love the movie, this has to be one of the least-tempting double-dips of all time.

I don't know that I like ANY move enough to warrant what, in my case, would be a triple-dip.

But LA DOLCE VITA does indeed deserve this 3 disc treatment. I'm quite content with my 2-disc'er.

* Documentary on La Dolce Vita composer Nino Rota
One has to wonder, too, if this is the same documentary that is on Criterion's 8 1/2--which makes it even less of an appealing package.

The 2-discer is just fine for me too. If it had a full-blown making-of doc plus the Medusa transfer without the yellow subs, I'd be tempted, but probably still wouldn't bite at that price. As is, I'll definitely pass.

Wow. Tell us how you really feel.
I just saw the package today and I think you will all be pleased. There is a lot of material added and a ton of photos that have never been seen.
On the subtitles, we have given you the option of either white or yellow (because some people actually like the yellow).
A lot of the materials added were to placate some of the fans that thought that the first set was not La Dolce centric enough, including interviews with Rinaldo Geland and Tullio Pinelli, period interviews with Fellini and Mastroianni, a new Anita Ekberg interview and an exhaustive essay by Peter Bondanella. The Rota doc is amazing.
We realize that a lot of you will not buy this again (we, of course, hope that some of you do), but we hope that we will be able to garner new fans to this wonderful film and that some that have already bought it will give it out as gifts during the holiday season.
I will try to answer any questions that you have.

Dear Tim:
Thank's for adding up your comments regarding the new edition of La Dolce Vita. I am going to ask you a few direct questions regarding presentation, transfer, etc.
First of all it is great that you have added up the white subs as I was one of those that disliked the yellow subs tremendously. So, Kudos!!!
Second of all I have already requested to review this specific disc with one thing in mind...has the "banding-issue" been corrected? This was the only reason why I kept my Italian Medusa disc until recently!!! I would like to know if your company has corrected the existing problem for this Deluxe edition of La Dolce Vita. I am certain you are aware what I refer to.
Last but not least...what is the interview with Anita Ekberg you point out above? There is a very long RAI interview she did regarding La Dolce Vita a few years ago. Is this what Koch has acquired the rights for? (This specific interview is not even on the Medusa disc). Just curious...
I am looking forward to your answer(s) and reviewing your new Deluxe disc

I'm sorry, Tim... I don't understand this. You aren't going to even answer if your company has attempted to address this issue (which was VERY noticable on your first release)?
