The Last Emperor
Some time back I thought I had read somewhere that we were going to get a much needed new transfer from the directors personal collection. Any know anything about it?

DVD Talk Hall of Fame
The Last Emperor deserves a new release. Even if they just released it with both versions of the movie and better picture and sound that would be a vast improvement. What we're stuck with now has got to be one of the worst DVDs of any Best Picture winner.

I'm bringing my "replaced and soon to be replaced by better versions" dvds to donate to the library today, and I've been deliberating about this one - I guess I'll save it just in case. This movie had a profound effect on me when I first saw it at the age of 10, and it has a permanent place in my heart like few other films. It really deserves a better treatment.

I've been debating about getting the anamorphic Region 0 version of the theatrical cut. It's not available in stores here but from various and sundry Asian DVD websites. On the one hand, I'd like to get an anamorphic version but I don't want to buy it if a rerelease is planned....*sigh*
