Big Fish-Special Edition

Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has sent over artwork for another special edition of the Tim Burton directed Big Fish, which stars Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange and Helena Bonham Carter. The disc will be available to own from the 1st November this year, and should set you back around $19.94. I'm afraid we have no details on specs for this one yet, although we can confirm that the set will include a collectible book at the very least. We'll bring you further details on this one shortly. Stay tuned for that. For now though, here's our first look at the official region one package artwork

I really loved the film but I'm not sure whether or not a double dip is even needed. Hopefully, the specs aren't too far off.

This is probably just to capitalize on Charlie and the Choclate Factory coming out on DVD around the same time. We'll see what the specs are before passing a judgement on double dipping. I am quite content with the orginal release.

I'd be surprised if there's anything of substance added, other than the book.

i wouldn't be surprised if it's just the existing DVD along with a collectible book and a new cover.

Me either, that's what Columbia does sometimes. I'm happy with the current version.

The fact that it doesn't haev any additional moniker like "Special/Deluxe/Ultimate Edition" on the cover, I'm thinking that's exactly it--same disc, added book. Ho-hum...

Love the film, but I won't double dip as it's not one I care about watching more extras on.

I think the cover is pretty icky, actually. The smaller type used for the actors' names and tagline is hard to read, and the texture really isn't that attractive at all. I like the original cover much, much more. This new one is awfully.......dull, I guess.

Yeah, I agree, the new cover is atrocious...looks like a knockoff on that one EVIL DEAD DVD cover with the mangled face...ugly color and texture...

There's a picture of this set posted over at HTF (for the life of me I can't figure how to copy image files from HTF'ers' posts to paste 'em here) that shows what appears to be the exact same disc we all already have, along with a decent sized scrapbook and what seems to be a senitype 35mm film frame. Hmm...

Looks identical...stands to reason they won't vary much, if at all...

"Big Fish" is one of my favorite movies of recent years - but if there aren't any significant additions I don't feel the need to upgrade.

Loved the movie. Probably my second or third favorite by Tim Burton. I don't see any real reason to upgrade though, as I'm sure the actual disc specs are the same. I don't consider this a special edition at all. Perhaps just a pointless one. But to those who don't already have it, go for it.

Unless you're being sarcastic, there very little hope there'll be additional extras.

I prefer the earlier cover as well. With the exception of a new release with a 2nd disk of extras (that are actually decent), I see no need to upgrade.

Just so everyone knows, the image of the new cover is actually an image of the slipcase...inside are the EXACT same previous release (with the same cover), plus the book "Fairy Tale for a Grown Up".
