Question on Enterprise DVD collection

Hello,

I just started watching season 2. I noticed the episodes #s often jump a digit or 2 for example you might have 28,30,31 and 33 on a disc(I didn't bother verifying the exact numbers). Does anyone know why there are gaps or do you have to be a true trekie to know the answer?

Thanks

Welcome to the difference between production number and airing order.

This may be true for all TV series, but certainly for Trek, but production numbers are assigned in chronological order for an episode that gets its first bit of development. But then, other episodes that "start" later, will get filmed and produced first get aired first. Not to worry though, I can't say all the time, but most of the time, there are no conflicts with continiuty.

For example, the first season of TNG was extremely bad with production numbers all over the place.

I dont' remember where, but it seems like on one of these Trek sets, they explain the difference in production number and the airing order.

For The Original Series boxsets, the eps are all over the place because they're in aired order.

The 40 single disc releases are in production order (except for The Cage being on the last disc with Turnabout Intruder).
