Agreed, but for the record I leave it open about half the time probably.

If I bought it online I just put it in the shrink wrap and then put it in the envelope it arrived in and place it in my mailbox.

Well, at least I'm not the only one who thinks those things are dorky. I mean, who are they for? They're like highway signs that alert you that the Academy for the Blind is up at the next exit. :rimshot:

Anyway, to answer the OP's question seriously, I usually close my cases. Even for TV sets that come in digi-paks and slipcases. I'll put the digi-pak back in the slipcase. For keepcases, I'll usually snap'em back shut, except for those that have those little locking tabs. I'll close the case, but won't relock the tabs. As for taking extra energy to do all these steps, WTF? Are we all becoming THAT lazy???

Not only that, but I put an AOL cd in it while I'm the DVD so the prongs don't expand while the DVD is out of it. And I always return the DVD case to shelf in its spot so it doesn't get dusty and the other cases don't tip over.

Then I wash my hands exactly nine times, flick the light switch on and off six times, and walk around my chair in a counterclockwise circle three times before i sit down in it. And I then enjoy the movie.

Wow. What would you do if you had Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?

I also leave the case open until I'm done with the movie. And I do have a specific reason: Opening and closing the case produces wear and tear on the latches that keep the case locked. I figure I can extend the functionality of the latches if I close the case only when I'm done.

Ladies and gentlemen of DVDTalk,Ladies and gentlemen of DVDTalk,

We have run out of topics.
So thats why I only pop in this forum once in a blue moon anymore.

It depends on whether I'm in a "puppy mood" or a "Mr Orange mood".

It's all about the timing, but neither matter.

ivelostr2 07-26-05 08:54 PM

all your cases are belonging to us.

Gizmo 07-26-05 09:17 PM

I place the case next to me so it can watch what it just gave birth to. Its very sexy.

Gojira69 07-26-05 09:21 PM

I always close my dear cases when others are around. When we are alone, then and only then, I open up my cases.

That is downright hilarious!!!

InnocentBlood 07-27-05 12:12 AM

There is no case...

metalfan 07-27-05 12:21 AM

Dillemas like this are one of the main reasons I stick to videotapes... and Jack Daniels.

SINGLE104 07-27-05 12:21 AM

NO! I always close the case whenever I remove a DVD, because if left opened, that will allow household dust, and other small particles to settle inside, and it may magnetise onto the disc when inserted.

There's no such thing as stupid questions only stupid threads.

movielib 07-27-05 08:02 AM

I break the case and throw it away. Then I get out a new case from my supply and put the DVD in that.

It just seems wrong to reuse a case. Besides, Penn & Teller said I shouldn't recycle.

illennium 07-27-05 08:19 AM

What's funny about this thread is that some of the real answers (especially using a "now playing" stand) are as lame as the made-up ones. Had I not seen pictures of those stands in the HT forum, I would have thought their mention here was a joke as well.

mzupeman2 07-27-05 09:32 AM

Agreed illennium.

I close my DVD cases as I'm watching something, or when a DVD is inside. There's no excuse to not close your cases as long as you want to take care of your DVD's. I mean, you spend money for a DVD, take care of it. Otherwise you may as well just rent the damn things, where you can be happy knowing you're sharing DVD's amongst a bunch of other slobs who returns discs with scratches and scuffs on a regular basis.

I know. That's what I was saying earlier. To expand on what I was saying is that shouldn't the people who are watching the movie *know* WHAT their watching? Why do you need the case in a display stand to remind yourself of what you're watching? Like I said, their like street signs for the Academy for the Blind.

Quite frankly, I think the *only* use for them is for dopes on DVD forums to take pictures of to post in HT threads to show people what's in their DVD player in order to impress folks. As if anybody else would care.

no one cares after all the effort I put into that? :(

Mad magazine had the "snappy answers to stupid questions".
Yes, love that Al Jaffee. Another great volume is -- "MAD'S Al Jaffee Spews Out STILL MORE Snappy Answers To Stupid Questions". :)

----------

(Man has just scalded his mouth with boiling-hot coffee....)

"Is the coffee hot?"

"No, but this BRANDING IRON I just stuck in my mouth sure is!"

---------------

(Man in barber chair awaits service....)

BARBER -- "Would you like me to cut your hair now?"

MAN -- "No, I want you to just bend each hair back & forth until each one breaks off!"

:) :)
