The Place Promised in Our Early Days?

Anyone check this one out yet. The previews look pretty impressive and it was really popular in theatrical release in Japan.

i have it. it should be one of the most popular cross-over anime pieces of the year, as its the first feature length movie from makoto shinkai. looks gorgeous, very similar feel to the story as 'voices of a distant star'. some will find it quite pretentious i think, but many anime fans and others will be amazed at how gorgeous and generally beautiful the whole thing is... there should be reviews around, online.

There are no reviews of the DVD release that I've found.

ADV does some excellent transfers- I take it this one is anamorphic?

How's the (dare I say it) dub? Is the original language track 2.0? How are the subs? Any extras? etc

i dont know about the disc specifics with regards anamorphic etc, and the quality of the dub as i never even check them. the trailer at ADV is dubbed i think.

the subs are fine. the extras are small interviews with makoto shinkai : nothing mindblowing as its only one disc...

Yes. Haven't checked to see if it's progressive or not.

No. This is apparently a typo in ADV's solicitation that all the other retailers picked up. Both the dub and the original language track are in 5.1.

I've only watched a few clips from my copy (I'm watching the whole movie tonight) but so far the subtitles look to be very well-done -- they match the color and font used in the on-screen text, as Right Stuf did with His and Her Circumstances. I did read a complaint about a few typos, though.

(Edit: subtitle sample here. Ignore the weird aspect ratio, since PowerDVD takes snapshots of anamorphic movies at their native 720x480 resolution.)

Four interviews (director and the three Japanese leads), three trailers for the movie ranging from 1:30 to 3:00, and the standard crappy previews for other ADV properties. Nice packaging, with a clear case and liner notes like Voices of a Distant Star.
