Obviously you do. No, it's not a real sequel.

 that was off the top of my head but it sounds completely like what some executives in Hollywood would do if the Coen Bros. had nothing to do with it.

Sorry, I don't know how to post links yet, still new here. But using the new link put up from dvdpricesearch.com, the Best Buy site lists the Gift Set as including a deck of cards, coasters and a shammy towel (i saw this listed in the web page title bar at the top of the screen). Looking forward to more details, although I really don't need any more cards or coasters, would have prefered a toe or a bowling ball bag.

This is Universal, so expect the over the top gift set. I do love the Scarface and Schindler's List gift sets.

Comfort Eagle 07-11-05 03:10 PM

Well shit, i will have to double dip on this for sure. Gift set for me, probably.

Grizzly 07-11-05 03:17 PM

what the hell do coasters, cards and a shammy towel have to do with The Big Lebowski? couldn't the gifts at least have something to do with the actual film?

Coasters for your white russian while you watch the movie.

Shammy towel to rub your bowling ball.

Not sure about cards? haven't seen the movie in awhile.

I think a Little Lebowski Urban Acheiver's T-shirt would have been cool. I've seen those on eBay, nice.

Exactly. Didn't take all that much thinking to come up with that. All in all, pretty lackluster. They could have done something more unique than that. How about an audio single of Hotel California from the movie? Autographed by a member of the band? A CCR cassette tape? Fake toe(already mentioned)? A VHS tape of the fake porno in the film? or something like these shirts.

For fun:

true fans of The Dude don't use coasters, man! ;)

a shammy towel to rub the bowling ball.. okay, but i'd rather get one of these:

http://growabrain.typepad.com/photos...owski_bowl.gif

a deck of cards, with Lebowski motifs might be neat, but it still doesn't really tie the DVD together. why not get a mini-poster of Nixon bowling, or a MouseRug..?

dvd_luver 07-12-05 02:45 AM

As big of a fan of this film as I am, after reading what is included (though, the shammy towel sounds sweet) I may hold off on this gift set. I have my doubts, and I agree, drink coasters are indeed un-dude-like, man. I would have liked it better if they included some other things, but still, I most likely, uh, may buy it man.

Skoobooz 07-12-05 08:22 AM

As I've said before, I'm curious about the actual disc contents. Although everyone says that the Coen Bros abhor special features, The Man Who Wasn't There had a commentary, some deleted scenes, and a featurette (if I remember correctly). Barton Fink had deleted scenes (did Miller's Crossing? I'm at work and can't check). Therefore, it seems likely that we'll get at least some deleted scenes (if any exist), perhaps a commentary (their commentary for TMWWT was decent), and the aforementioned Lebowski Fest featurette.

Now an Over the Top Gift Set would be sweet. It could come with professional arm-wrestling grips and a cap you can reverse for power.

dvd_luver 07-12-05 11:40 AM

What matters most is what is on this release. All the special features and what may have you. I complained about the gift set, but it's the coming dvd from Universal that is the real reason why we will all buy the gift set or just the dvd. Not the shammy, not the playing cards, or the drink coasters. Will Universal make this a dvd to truly own for fans of this film!

As a fan, the specs when released, should be very interesting, indeed!

Romerojpg 07-12-05 12:05 PM

There are Playing Card sets out there now, they were sent to the press to advertise the film and are very rare :) so I guess they may well be them sets or similar.

Still depends on what they do with the dvd still :D

gorgo99 07-12-05 12:42 PM

My favorite Coen brothers tie-in is definitely the "Fargo" snow globe with the tree-shredder.

The closest we could get for Lebowski would be (apologies to previous posts who mentioned some of these):

- The set is a beat-up duffle bag
- A fake toe is inside
- White Russian recipe
- cancelled check for 97 cents (or whatever the milk cost)
- A small rug replica
- The Nixon bowling poster
- "Are you a Lebowski Achiever"? mirror

Save Ferris 07-12-05 01:03 PM

Id like to read little Larrys essay and maybe the album cover of AUTOBAHN or an alternate audio track on the DVD of bowling sounds.

the Swedish DVD for the film has a White Russian recipe as a bonus feature. i can't imagine they'll ever include that on an American DVD.

as for a small rug.. well, it's not a replica, but MouseRugs are pretty close: mouserug.com

the Nixon bowling poster can be bought at lebowskifest.com

the mirror.. i know there's a person that makes these and sells them.. they usually pop up on eBay every now and then.

shizawn 07-12-05 04:53 PM

Should come with a Creedence tape.

Josh Z 07-12-05 06:13 PM

I sure hope they don't forget the Kenneth Loring commentary like on Blood Simple.

The Big Lebowski

Universal has still to issue full specs for The Big Lebowski: Collector's Edition disc we broke last week. However, we can tell you what goodies are going to be included with the Collector's Edition Gift Box. For $49.98 you'll get a set of "Big Lebowski" coasters (for White Russians, natch), playing cards and a shammy towel. For that much money, a better gift set should have included a ferret, a ringer of dirty undies and an actual toe.

ledbetter29 07-14-05 12:02 PM

What do you mean two release of the film? Isn't it only out once before?
