Do you make a point to watch certain DVDs on certain holidays?
 

I noticed on one of those "what are you watching this week" threads that several people had planned to watch the Independence Day DVD on July 4th, which makes sense. I recall purposefully saving the extended branching cut of ID4 to watch at a July 4th party one year. For Christmas, there are a bunch of obvious holiday classics but I think I'm going to try to watch Love Actually this upcoming holiday. For New Year's, I think I'll dig out When Harry Met Sally. For Valentine's this past year we watched Roman Holiday, and for next year I could see myself watching either Before Sunrise/Before Sunset with my wife or one of our favorite romantic comedies.

Does anyone else do this sort of thing too, and if so, what DVDs do you like to watch on what holidays (or other special occasions)?

I watch a number of Christmas "classics" during the month of December. Things like Scrooged, Bad(der) Santa, The Nightmare Before Christmas and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation are absolute must watch movies.

I also watch Groundhog Day each year on the appropriate day.

I attempt to watch Christmas Vacation every day in December. I'll at least have it running in the background while I'm doing something else.

That's about the only one.

Not that it has much to do with DVD's, but I seem to remember one of the TV networks always showing Wizard of Oz on Easter. Anyone else remember that?

There's a few Christmas movies I watch every year in december.

Also, not really a holiday but I make a point to dedicating a night each to Lawrence of Arabia,The Godfather I/II, and the LOTR's during the summer. Speaking of which, I haven't seen the above since last year and look forward to seeing all very soon!

Don't quite know why but Fight Club every 4th of July. Maybe because that was the first day back in 1999 that I had the time to watch it with all the extras. Man that movie still kicks ass.

I always watch Christmas movies around Christmas, and horror movies on Halloween, but none in particular, just whatever strikes my fancy. Usually National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, and Scrooged get at least one play, but it's not set in stone, it just sort of works out that way. Also, I typically give Planes, Trains & Automobiles a whirl on Thanksgiving, but mostly only because I don't have any other Thanksgiving-themed favorites. I try to make a point to watch a war movie that I've never seen on Memorial Day too.

Die Hard and Lethal Weapon--Christmas, of course.

I always make it a point to pop in A Christmas Story during the X-Mas Holiday Season. I was raised up on that movie and it is sort of tradition around my house.

During Halloween, I usually watch the first Nightmare on Elm Street, the first Friday the 13th, and the first Halloween.

Other than those, anything else I might watch during the appropriate season is just on a whim.

I sort of collect Christmas movies and cartoons. I have maybe 40 or so DVDs in that binder, pull it out after every Thanksgiving, make it a goal to watch them all, and end up watching maybe 10 or so (usually the classic cartoons like Rudolph and Grinch, and my fav movies like Scrooged and A Christmas Story).

ID4 on Independence Day and Christmas Story on Christmas day.

No, though I did think about watching 1776 this Fourth of July, if that counts.

I did this for several years (way before DVD's) but I found myself tiring of watching the same old movies each year so I try to mix it up now-a-days. There are the old stand-bys like A Christmas Story, Halloween, Sleepy Hollow, Christmas Vacation that are talked about ad-nauseum. However, I try to set up a Halloween film festival at my house that lasts all month long. This year (as well as last), I am starting in September because there is so much stuff I like to watch around Halloween. My wife and son have gotten used to this.

I watch a Christmas Story on Christmas eve or Christmas Day every year. During October every year, the El Capitan Theatre here in L.A. plays Nightmare Before Christmas on the big screen so I catch it in the theater.

The only other movie I make a point of seeing is THE CROW ... I watch it on March 31 every year, the day Brandon Lee died.

March 24th - I watch the Breakfast Club EVERY YEAR on this day, been doing it for at least 15 years.

Halloween I usually watch a Friday the 13th/Nightmare on Elm St. or Halloween movie. On a Friday the 13th I always watch a Friday the 13th flick. Usually Friday the 13th Part 7. And on Christmas I watch Scrooged, National Lampoon's Christmas Vaction, and A Christmas Story.
