From Davis Dvd

The Blind Dead Collection

Blue Underground presents one of the holy grails of classic Euro horror with The Blind Dead Collection (Limited Edition). All come with 1.85 anamorphic transfers, English and Spanish Dolby Digital mono tracks and subtitles. Extras will include an alternate opening sequence on "Tombs," poster & still galleries, trailers, TV spots and radio spots. The bonus fifth disc will include "The Last Templar" and "Unearthing the Blind Dead" interviews with writer/director Amando de Ossorio and "Farewell to Spain's Knight of Horror" and more. The set's rounded out with a collectible 40-page booklet and a limited coffin-shaped box! Retail is $99.95.

I've been waiting for this, but jeebus, I didn't expect it to be so expensive... but of course that's retail.

I had to laugh at this: "Presented uncut and uncensored for the first time ever on DVD, these four long-unseen classics", Since Anchor Bay had released the first 2 supposedly uncut on DVD back in the early days of DVD. I sold my copy of that (heinous transfer) in anticipation of this. And the other 2 are on some of the cheap PD DVDs that are out there (although they look like cheap PD transfers).

Between this box, the new Hammer set, Val Lewton box, Lugosi collection, etc., Sept./Oct. is going to be a very expensive time for me ; )

SendMeMovies.com has it up for preorder for under $60. The Alan Clarke Collection, another BU box with the same MSRP, goes for under $60 at DeepDiscountDVD.com. This should be available for about $60 for savvy shoppers.

$60... now we're talking! Very worthwhile.

I was almost feeling bad about how criminally underpriced the new Hammer set is, this and the Val Lewton set will balance out my DVD karma ; )

Good news about a release date finally, been eagerly awaiting this one this year.
Have to say i'm not too keen on the 'coffin box' packaging gimmick, am hoping there won't be the same issue of loose and scratched discs that plagued the initial run of the Anchor Bay R2 Amicus sets etc.

Yeah, my initial excitement has been dampened by:

1. The $100 price tag

and

2. The "coffin" box.

That's more than I was hoping to spend... and my collection certainly doesn't need additional bulky, unusually-sized packaging in it.

We'll see. I'm sure I'll be able to knock the price down to the 50 buck range somewhere. And maybe the box isn't as bad as I'm picturing. (I'm thinking about the Image "Coffin Joe" LE from a few years back.)

This will be my 3rd coffin box. My Misfits is my first and best. Coffin Joe proves that, hopefully, a coffin can't be made any worse.

the universal monster box from brazil was in a coffin box, and it wasn
t overly bulky. It looked pretty cool. And the coffin box will be limited, so you may hold out a few months and get it in a diffrent box

Knowing BU, if they ever release the films separately, it will be a minimum of a year after the boxset comes out.

It's already down to $60 as a pre-order, and prices may be even lower once other e-tailers start carrying it.

Too bad its a "coffin-shaped" box. I hate odd shaped packaging of DVDs.

$99.95 seems like a hell of high MSRP for this set.

These movies aren't that great to begin with... I mean, I was interested, but not at what they're asking. Even with a good discount, it'll still cost around sixty bucks. I just can't justify that when I already have the Anchor Bay DVD of the first two, which I've only watched once.

That price is just nuts. I was expecting this to be priced along the lines of that four movie Christopher Lee collection BU put out a year or two ago. It was something like $60 MSRP. I'd probably shell out thrity-six bucks for this set, but not any more.

Thanks for the pic... that makes me feel a *bit* better about the packaging. Although I still don't think it's a smart idea (with all of the articles about lack of shelf space in homes and retail) to intentionally go wider. Still, that isn't too bad.

That MSRP is still nuts, though. I don't imagine they'll sell to anyone except major die-hards at that price.

Packaging is cool, but MSRP is way too high for this!

Add me to the list of people who think the MSRP is way too high. Too bad, I would have definitely picked it up otherwise.

Stop complaining...

you can already order it on some sites for as low as $60 and that is pretty fair IMO.

I'll complain all I like, thank you very much.

$60 out of pocket for a 4-movie set like this is nuts. $60 isn't an "as low as" situation... that's a lot of cash.
