Bewitched B/W not in stores!
At least I can't find it anywhere. :(
|
Look harder ?
|
Ordered the B&W Bewitched from DDD this morning and it was in-stock. I guess maybe B&M stores go with the color one for Joe 6-pack.
|
I did'nt buy it but there were copies at my local Wal-Mart and Target.
|
Saw a few copies at Costco & Walmart. There were FAR more "color" sets at both stores.

I was at Target today and they only had the Color version. Wal-mart had both though. Target has really pissed me off lately by only selling Full Screen versions of many Universal releases and this Color only thing.

It was obvious from the stocking, especially at Costco and the cardboard trays that few if any of these sets had sold at all - including the colorized ones. |
We actually sold out of the color version at my Media Play. Go figure.

Sony has merely labeled the front covers of the colorized Bewitched sets as being "In Color." http://images.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/680287h.jpg On the back of the set, in the grid where the discs' features are notated, it also just says "COLOR" as the programs' color format. Unless it's in the tiny copyright info at the bottom of the box on the back, there is nothing that says the episodes are colorized, as we know they are. And even if it is notated there, no one really reads that info. So is it any wonder that stores are stocking that version and consumers are buying it? From their perspective, nothing is wrong. I would bet that most people don't realize that the show's first season was in B&W because it's not shown as much in syndication for that very reason. Sony has really pulled a fast one on this release. |
For some reason, I think the studio wants to push the colorized version. I guess to pay off Ted Turner, I am not sure. Amazon.com sent me an email the other day advertising this set, and they only sent me a link for the colorized version. That kind of upset me, and gave me even a less of a reason to order from amazon.com unless I absolutely had to.

I agree about not many knowing it was in B&W. I think I only saw a few of the BW ones. All the rest were the color ones. I'd have to say that since I pretty much always remember it in color, I would get the color version. I'm not going to get something I don't want just because of that is how it was.
BTW, I'm not getting either so it doesn't really matter. |

I had a hard time finding it too. I went to Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City...
I finally found it at Suncoast. I told the lady that I had a hard time finding it and she said they only got 3 copies of the color version and like 20 of the B&W P.S. I grabbed Tabitha at CC for $22.99, it's like $29.99 at BB so just a heads up |

I purchased the B&W at Tower last night.

Fry's had lots more B/W copies than color. I'm not sure if that means the color ones were selling more or that they simply put more B/W copies out.

It's your money, but consider spending it on the better product first before you spend it on the washed out version.
EDIT, I just saw you aren't getting it. Oh, well, I will leave this post up in the event anybody else thinks that way. I guess the people who will buy the Colorized Bewitched Season Ones, were dissapointed when they found out that Season One of Gilligans Island was also in black and white. |
Sigh. This news doesn't surprise me one whit. I suppose those among us who actively CARE about the program's original broadcast format will have to pick through the colorized garbage to find a B/W copy. Frankly I think it's worth the extra effort.
Kind of a tacky move on Sony's part not to use the word "COLORIZED" instead of just "COLOR," but I suppose we can't really blame the retailers for stocking what they believe their customers really want. But trying to convince people to go with B/W over color is like trying to MAKE them pick OAR over P&S. Some folks don't care, and other folks honestly WANT the fullscreen. And even though I feel pretty strongly about these issues, I don't think it's my right to force people into agreeing with me. But my Bewitched set is in B/W, and I love it. All things considered, I suppose we should be grateful that Sony even released the season set in B/W at all! |
I dunno, if you ask me, that's what you get for trying to buy DVDs at places like Crap-Mart, Target, Costco, etc. I wouldn't expect anything different. I've never bought DVDs, music, etc., from them and never will.
|
Well, perhaps the average consumer isn't as much of a purist as we DVD/movie/television enthusiasts are. Those folks still deserve to get a quality item for their "Lowest Price Guaranteed!!"

I saw in some of the weekend ad postings that the Bewitched S1 DVD set comes with "Movie Cash". Can someone who picked this up already tell us what exactly the "Movie Cash" is, what restrictions are there, etc.? I bought the "Predator" DVD a while back factoring in the supposedly "free" ticket that came with it in my buying decision, and it turned out that it was only good at certain no-name theaters that weren't anywhere near us, and so it turned out to be a useless throwaway.

At my local Walmart they gave "Bewitched Season One" a cardboard box with about 12 compartments and only 2 of the compartments are marked for black and white. My guess is that the stores think that they will sell more colorized versions than B&W.

I think your subject heading is slightly misleading...
Anyway, didn't they go to color in season two? If that's the case, then at least we don't have to worry about sales for B/W vs. Color influencing any second season release. Of course, they might influence other Sony releases with similar situations.... |

I wonder if it'll come with the free ticket to the feature film that opens tomorrow? ;) |
No, "Bewitched" was not shot in color until Season 3.
However, colorized masters of the second season (and also the first season of "I Dream of Jeannie") are already complete and have aired on TV around the world. There is little doubt that the dual B/W and color release will be the case for these as well.... Just be glad the B/W versions are on the market at all; at least the consumer has a choice. |
Geez, my point is, I expect that they would only carry the colorised version (or have fewer copies of the b/w, if at all) and full-screen versions of other DVDs (same case with the widescreen version). Eh, nevermind.
|
Cant be too hard to find. Apparently some online rental places actually only stock B&W version, much to distress of some.
|
I just checked amazon.com's sales ranks for the two sets....
The color set comes in at #91 The black and white comes in at #35. I was glad to see that, considering it seemed as if amazon.com was pushing the color set in their email promos. |
Ordered the B&W from DDD with no problems during the big sale.
Don't understand the need to buy from B&M when the better prices and selection are nearly always found online. Haven't bought a DVD in a B&M for about a year now, with no regrets. |

A friend of mine bought the color one at Best Buy last week. He was looking for the B/W one, but since BB apparently doesn't carry the B/W in-store, he just went ahead and bought the color one. He got a scolding from me pronto and agreed to return it unopened and get the B/W one somewhere else. Believe it or not, he doesn't have a computer (!) so I said I would order it for him on-line since I was already placing a HUGE order during the big DDD sale. So I ordered the B/W version - clearly indicated on the order and the inventory receipt in the package that arrived - and, you guessed it, they sent the COLOR one instead. It seems like a conspiracy to push this color version on people at every level. I bet the B/W version will be discontinued a lot sooner than the color one, too. I guess fans should be happy that Sony released it in B/W to begin with, but retailers sure aren't making it that easy to get ahold of. |
I couldn't find the B&W at Wal-mart, Circuit City, or Target and there was no space for them. They both had the colored version. So I had to order the B&W from Amazon.

My local Tower did not stock any color copies, only black and white, which is good news to me.
